What is going on with the water park? Why did they stopped developing this property?
I lost an antique silver moon necklace piece about 1 inch in length somewhere doing errands in Ellensburg. Somehow it got off of my silver chain on my neck, and it seems it was the circular ring that held it on that may have caught on something, opened, and let it fall. This silver moon has a number of holes in it shaped exactly like stars, it has some weight to it due to the time period it was made in, and a lot of sentimental value. My Fairbanks, Alaska, college friend bought it for me about 17 years ago while she was on a trip in Boston and I have taken good care of it keeping it near always. If anyone, anywhere, finds it, hears about it, or sees it, could you please leave a msg. how to reach you at 509 607-0319? I appreciate any help anyone can offer and thank you all.

What is everyone else doing for fun these days?
I just posted a couple more pictures. Have been going for bike rides in the sunshine as often as I can. Ellensburg pool moon light swim 7:30 - 9:00 PM on Sunday has been nice.
Joined the Eagles. Seems like a nice place with good people around.
Haven't been out in a kayak in a while but I'd like to head out one more time before things get too cold.
Think I'm going to the big opening day thing at the Horse Park next Saturday.
What are you doing?
A.
Maybe I'm the only one but, I'm a little frustrated with having to have my studded snow tires off when I woke up to another six inches of snow out in Easton this morning...
I'm was a little surprised to find out they did not extend the date to have them removed. I drive my kids around and would rather have the peace of mind that I won't get stuck in my driveway or worse, out on the road stranded somewhere...
From Jean Starling's business column in the March 26 edition of the Daily Record:
Martin Seligman, founder of the positive psychology movement and former president of the American Psychological Association, performed a research study on 47 severely depressed individuals. The study involved two actions. First, participants focused their attention on things that were proven to increase happiness, specifically, an exercise called the three blessings, in which people wrote down three things that had gone well that day — instead of focusing on the things that were making them unhappy. Second, they formed support groups which focused on encouraging people to pay attention to their happiness. They had the individuals perform happiness-inducing exercises. The results: depression in 94 percent of the participants dropped significantly, from clinically severe to clinically mild-to-moderate symptoms. Focusing on happiness instead of unhappiness changed their outlook on life and their behaviors. (Read the full column in Thursday'...
Ok, time to sound like a crackpot I guess. Was anyone else out there stargazing to the southwest (roughly) last night around 9:30 ? I was standing on the porch getting some fresh air last night and noticed a couple of stars that I had never seen before. Constant, steady light. Not blinking like a plane...and moving straight up. I called my wife out just to verify what I was seeing, but for about 5 minutes we watched two lights, one below the other, in a row (quite far apart from each other) appear to ascend up from the horizon. At some point a few minutes into it, we saw a shooting star to the aft of the first light. Only, it didnt streak, it just seemed to flare brightly and then go out. Eventually, the top light began to dim and then went out. The second light stayed strong until it reached the point where the first light disappeared, and then it too began to dim and finally disappeared.
No, I wasnt drinking. Now, I know that flares dont ascend for a full five minutes. I have seen rocket launches before,...

As for me, I loved the TAV. Over the years, everyone I ever took there loved it too. I'm optimistic about the new owners. I do not believe their now serving hard liquor will have any effect. They have to make a buck, you know. Just so long as they keep making that Mother Berger.

THUMBS UP
1. The renovation of Mountain View Av. 2. The renovation of Ruby St. THUMBS DOWN 1. They spoiled the looks of the otherwise beautiful new Mountain View Av. by having many of the drainage ditches between the road and the sidewalk, recessed. This makes that area hard to mow, catches all the blown in junk and is unattractive. Much better if it was graded level and all of them in grass. Grrr! 2. A much better use of the area made available by the removal of Courson and MUzzall would have been a PARKING AREA. We do not A "Pretty little Park" there. We have a large park very near. We need PARKING. The whole city needs public parking!
How can someone budget if there is no timely reporting of assets? Why is the County Auditor consistantly late with reports. How is it an email was sent through out the County by an County Auditor Employee that says they found 1.5 million dollars? Let me guess. The Auditors Office was being asked about where they could make cuts. That would be a convienent time to find money. The next question is: How did it get misplaced? Are you telling me that between his huge staff and his amazing accounting abilities it was just stuck in a sock drawer for a rainy day? This is our money, tax payer money, don't you think this is something we should expect to know about?
In the coming months when the state Legislature releases its next two-year state budget, local school districts could be facing significant budget cuts.
For example, when Gov. Chris Gregoire first announced the state's projection of a $5 billion budget deficit in the next two-year state budget, the Ellensburg School District was facing an $800,000 reduction in state funding, according to ESD Superintendent Paul Farris. Now that the state's budget deficit projection has grown to $8 billion and counting, ESD faces a minimum of a $1.4 million reduction in state funding. Obviously, there will be some tough choices to me made by local school administrators as they try to maintain programs in the face of decreased funding. If you were in their shoes, what types of budget cuts and/or efficiencies would you recommend?
From Monday's Daily Record:
By CHELSEA KROTZER staff writer For 16-year-old Ellensburg High School junior Katie Hemmingson text messaging isn’t just another form of communication — it’s a necessity. “It’s just kind of like an urge,” said Hemmingson. “I have to know what’s on the text, no matter the consequences.” Hemmingson said she texts between 100 and 150 times during a school day — equaling out to at most, about 20 texts every 15 minutes within the eight-hour school day. “I text — a lot,” Hemmingson said. EHS Vice Principal Rob Moffat has noticed the compulsion among students. EHS students are required to keep their phones off during instruction. “It’s interesting to see how addicting it is for them,” Moffat said. “Students come down just begging to have their phone back (once confiscated).” Moffat said EHS teachers have confiscated more than 100 phones from the student body of more than 900 this school year, including a handful from repeat offenders. When taken, students are able to pick up their phone from the...
The Ellensburg Downtown Association has invited business people and other residents to a downtown visioning workshop set for 5 to 9 p.m. today, March 10, at the Hal Holmes Community Center.
What's your vision for downtown Ellensburg? What type of business/services would you most like to see join the downtown core?
OR the any other law enforcement department in our county that I've had contact with.
First, please let me share a link to a current story in our little community news paper: http://kvnews.com/articles/2009/03/07/news/doc49b211405f4963 And I do have a comment, that I wrote which is now attached to that article. I have had at least 3 contacts with the EPD. Another with whoever enforces parking in the city. Two contacts with CWU police. Several different kinds of interesting experiences with the sheriff's department. AND several with the Washington State Patrol. I have not had any problems with any of them. One was a wreck that I was involved in when someone blew through a yield sign and T-boned me. Twice, I had a headlight out. And it seems like every time I'm pulled over in the snow and ice, fiddling with my tire chains, one of them comes by and politely asks me if I need assistance. All my personal vehicles are old and worn out looking. I'm sure that most of the time, my appearance would not be particularly...
So the new owners of the Tav are going to start serving hard liquor...great, you can kiss that fine establishment goodbye. Nothing ruins a great local tavern like 20-somethings all fired up on cheap Jack Daniels. I'll try not to slip on the vomit as I pass by on route to an alternative joint that pours a good cold beer, serves good food and is void of the problems that come with hard liquor.
I cut and pasted this from the UCRecord.com. This was from last Tuesdays Cle Elum Council meeting. The Council unfortunately didnt take my recommendation of just giving Diamondbacks $20,000 and then giving the owners of the Cottage Cafe, Sunset, and Storeys each $10,000. My twisted logic kind of goes like this. If giving the Cottage $10,000 is good for the owner there then it must be good for all of Cle Elum. The Mayor and Council can simply raise taxes on all the homeowners and give the money to those business they like to patronize. Its a win-win business for everyone.
This is kind of a novel idea but maybe the Council and Mayor could actually think of attracting more business from the freeway into town. When the town collects $65,000 from HM Taxes and has nothing to show for it except maybe the bathroom in town something is wrong. The Christmas-Winter lighting in town is a total disaster because its non-existent. The town could easily spend several thousand dollars of HM taxes on some decent lighting...
It is unlawful in the city of Ellensburg to play an accordian inside a moving elevator or escalator.
