While trying to respond to an article, I got the following error message:

What is the problem? Also is there an email address that should be used to report problem instead of using kvtalks?

When grilling a hamburger, you put cheese on one, then the wind lifts it off the chosen burger, and flips it onto an adjacent one.  Yes, it happened.  It's a true story.

Have you changed your daily routines because of the E. coli outbreak in Ellensburg? Are you washing your hands more frequently? Making other changes?

Kittitas County's recycling rate is 34 percent. The state average is 45 percent. The county's solid waste department estimates every person in the county discards the equivalent of 5.45 pounds of solid waste daily. And it's estimated that more than 50 percent of that waste is reusable or recyclable.

What's keeping you from recycling? Are residents doing enough?

May 2010 was the windiest month in Ellensburg in the last 11 years, according to the National Weather Service. (See story by clicking here.)

To mark the occasion, it's time for a game of You Know It's Windy When ....

Example: You know it's windy in the Kittitas Valley when you try to have a picnic and everything blows away.

Or ...You know it's windy in the Kittitas Valley when your patio furniture lands in the neighbor's patio.

Kittitas Valley Community Hospital officials and local health care providers say they are leading a concerted effort to improve access to health care in Kittitas County, while still providing quality care locally. Officials say they have made strides in the past year in recruiting and hiring new physicians. (See June 19 print and VIP editions of the Daily Record for the full story -- part of it is posted here).

What do you think? Are things improving?

Ken Griffey Jr. has said so long to the baseball diamond. What are your thoughts as baseball witnesses the end of a long, mostly glorious career?

Are nostalgic for the force that was Ken Griffey Jr. circa 1997? Are you happy to see a .184 hitter go? Let's hear it.

Is there a list of profanity that we can access? It would be nice to have the list with suggested alternatives to words like He!! where !=L and ar$e where $=S.

I see where He!! is ok in a letter to the editor but not in a response. Ar%e was an alternative to A$$ but ar$e also became profane. I could use "behind" to replace ar$e or a$$ but then I would come off like I was talking to toddlers and I assume I am talking to adults.

There must be a secure, hidden drawer of place where this list can be seen and those words can then be avoided.

Tuesday, May 18th, is the 30th anniversary of the eruption of Mount St. Helens.

The blast killed 57 people, obliterated a forest, filled local rivers with mud and spewed ash for miles.

What do you remember from that time? Share stories and photos here.

Okay, what the *#$! is going on with the M's this year? When they're hitting, their relievers give up slams in the 8th. When our pitchers like Vargas and Fister are dialing in, we can't even execute a squeeze. I really like this lineup, but they better start playing up to their potential soon or the Sounders will start out-drawing them at the gate!

A breakdown of bad faith talks between DOE and the Kittitas County Commissioners resulted in an exempt well moratorium in the upper county. Supposedly, it all has to do with the results of a study, already funded by the legislature, on the effects of ground water extraction and surface water. You would think that everyone affected by the moratorium would be following the study closely. Not really. It is a foregone conclusion that future ground water extraction will have to be mitigated. Count on it. In fact, the moratorium could spread to other parts of this county. In retrospect, Jeremy's point about fact-based decisions is well taken.

Whatatrip was asking about water information. The Reclamation site is the best tool out there. Here it is:

The BOR, like all federal organizations, don't always give you straight information because of bureaucracy, political correctness, and legal issues. By reading these numbers regularly you can pretty much determine too...

What do you think about plans to keep University Way four lanes? The City Council last week turned down a proposal to change University Way to a three-lane street with two, five-feet wide bike lanes on the sides, similar to Mountain View Avenue. The lane change also would have included an increase in speed — up to 35 mph.

The council asked staff to concentrate on crossing safety and the management of motor vehicle traffic.

As of May 1, smokers are paying an additional $1 per pack tax on cigarettes in Washington. State sales taxes on candy and bottled water take effect June 1. A tax hike on beer also takes effect that day. A new, 2 cent per 12 ounce tax on carbonated beverages begins July 1. What do you think? Too much? Not enough?

Its another Tea Party Day.   Last year Kittitas County had its own Tea Party in Cle Elum.  Not much going on this year.  Yakima though has had several tea party rallies in the past year.   There was a Tea Party rally a few days ago in Yakima.  I found some photos and Youtube links to the rally.  Its pretty interesting stuff.  Why dont our local "Tea Party leaders try to get some traction with coming out with positions on cutting the military budget, medicare etc?   A true Libertarian position would probably have clear positions on Medicare, military spending and our over seas wars.  Enjoy
