Winter travel in the Kittitas Valley

Do you have advice for winter travel in the Kittitas Valley? Are there places drivers should slow down or avoid when it is snowing?

One Response to Winter travel in the Kittitas Valley

  1. MC says:

Hwy 10, Hwy 97, Hwy 970, and probably some others I can’t remember right now all get DOT trucks applying salt. It works reasonably well to keep ice down.

HOWEVER… it also turns these roads into miles of salt lick for deer and elk! This gets particularly ‘interesting’ when trying to drive at night in heavy falling snow, as visibility is pretty bad. The ONLY thing you can do to try to avoid those impacts – or keep the damage down if they can’t be avoided- is to SLOW DOWN.
