Call me a little radical, well maybe, but if the criminals sensed that the people were fed up and not going to take it anymore that would be a good start. The people that do these crimes need to be prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law! The criminal juctice system is a huge part of the problem.

I get it the police do they best they can, but with the huge damage these two alone are likley to have caused for so many families, it is aggrevating they haven't been caught! The tweakers and others who do crimes to support their drug habits are mostley locals. The worst college students do is noise violations, peeing outside, and throwing beer bottles on lawns. Not that stuff is anything to be proud of, but it gets old when everyone blames the college kids. "

For another laugh, here is the post I am referring to,,,,,,

If you take the time to reflect back on time, the most serious crimes we have experienced in Ellensburg (this is speaking from experience) have been commited by criminals either passing through town and those who were born and raised right here in the valley who had no connection to CWU, let alone the motivation or IQ to attend CWU.

Yes, a "few" CWU students step out of line throughout the school year and cross paths with law enforcement. Unlike any other community, as have a small fraction of folks who our either bad people (and CWU can't weed all of them out - sometimes people can fool us) - or a small fraction who just get stupid and do stupid things that result in commiting a crime. In reality, I am going to go out on a limb and venture a wild guess that law enforcement only deals with about 1% (and that might be a bit high) of the CWU student body throughout the school year.

I guess Ellensburg PD can close those cases. "

Charges are generally "stacked" to provide room for a plea bargain or to ensure a conviction on a lesser charge when there is not enough evidence for the more severe one, which does not appear to be the case here. These two suspects are family members. Any other stupid questions? "

I find this user name interesting. Is it a real name? When I see Garry Owens I think of the old Irish drinking song Garryowen. The 7th U.S. Cavalry band played as a marching song at George A.Custer's request. There are 3 different lyrics, the original Irish version, the 7th Cavalry version and the Sgt. Flynn version which was written following the Battle of Little Big Horn.
This has nothing to do with anything...just find the user name interesting and wonder if it's a real name or possibly chosen because the user likes the song.

I recently realized first-hand that a burglar can live your home for days while you are out of town, eat your food, bring his own porn to watch in your child's bedroom, rob you, and torture your pets, and as long as he tells the officers who find him there that your ten year old gave him permission, then it's ok! I mean, it's not like a police officer is obligated to leave a note, a card, make a phone call, or anything to let you know they found someone in your home...that would be too much to ask. Besides, he said he has permission, so no need to follow up or anything- burglars don't lie.
and another.... byJSmith1 week ago (3 votes) (report abuse) (reply)
How about the time a young woman was being stalked by a known criminal for which there was an active restraining order...he chucked a very large rock through her window, barely missing a person's head...he was clearly seen and heard through the window, his belongings found in the bushes by her house and strewn through the yard where he ran. I'd like to say he was picked up for violation of the order, and for vandalism... but alas, his property left behind as well as eye witnesses were simply not enough evidence.
there's still more byJSmith1 week ago (4 votes) (report abuse) (reply)
There once was a young man who was suicidal. He fled town after ridding himself of all meaningful possessions and letting others know quite frankly what his plans were. His friends wanted to help him, because they cared about him and didn't want to see him end his life. They did what they thought was the "right" thing to do in such a situation. They contacted the crisis line and the authorities, whom they trusted would in turn do the "right" thing and get him the help he needed. This is where our system failed miserably. They found him, and friends and family were relieved to know that he was "safe" now and would receive the appropriate assistance. But then, instead of caring for his mental state, he was instead locked up on some ridiculous infraction - well, his friends reasoned, the system would surely provide suicide watch and mental health counseling, wouldn't they? In the meantime, friends were trying to reach him by mail - only to have that mail returned. Strange, he was still on the inmate roster... as the story goes, he had been moved to another county for some time, still on the previous county's roster, and no one could figure out where he was...that is, until his body was found. Oops, they somehow forgot to pass on the message to the new county of his condition, so no suicide watch, no counseling, and completely isolated. The friends put their faith in a system that was supposed to work, in the so-called professional who are supposedly trained to handle these sorts of things. This is not an isolated situation, this is an example of how the system in place does not work. The system, as evidenced by this example, cares more for it's convictions than it does for the individual. How many enter the system and come out of it "rehabilitated"? How many enter suicidal and come out in a body bag? How many child molesters are released only to hurt more children? How many criminals change their ways just because they spent time behind bars - or do they come out worse than before?
In any case, people will say that if someone is bent on suicide, then nothing will stop them....and my response is that NO ONE EVEN TRIED, at least not the "professionals."
wrongful death byJSmith1 week ago (4 votes) (report abuse) (reply)
Do you want to hear another one? I thought so. A young man took a long drive to visit his family. On the way, his car broke down and he had to ditch it and hitch hike. I guess the locals of the town he ended up in didn't take kindly to "vagrants." As officers spoke with him, he told them that there were three men after him, and he was afraid for his life. Maybe it was true, maybe he was hallucinating - in either case, law should have either helped protect him, or should have found him mental help. Instead, they decided it best to escort him to an unlit highway in the middle of the night, ironically very near to the "no hitch hiking" sign. As the police report reads, the man was terrified the entire way, asking officers to please just shoot him, he wanted to die. He pleaded with the officer all the way, even when he was out of the vehicle. Well, there's a good indication that maybe dropping off a suicidal and/or delusional and/or man-in-imminent-danger on a busy, dark highway in the middle of the night may not be the best idea. How about a local hospital? Hell, I'd settle for a jail cell at this point. No sooner did the officer drop him off and turn around to head back into town did he receive a call to return to the same exact spot, whereupon his report now had to include an inventory of the peices of the young man's body that were now scattered across 40 yards of the interstate.
Another prime example of exemplary conduct by law enforcement. In this case, they were more concerned with ridding their town of this "undesirable" than they were for the man's very life.

Boring. Stories that have absolutely nothing to do with our local law enforcement officers.
RE: And here we go again. byGarryOwens1 week ago (5 votes) (report abuse)
It has everything to do with 'our' police and I will tell why. Police proceedures concern all cops (us as well), Jsmith is doing what any real American would do and that is letting people know whats up. Moreover, in these cases, because the victims are considered to be "low income" so they get low priority and attention. Thats what those actual accounts show clearly. However, in America the Constitution, Bill of Rights and laws well they apply to everyone. To every citizen regadless of race, code/religion or creed, even to those who are just visiting America are extended the same hand of liberty. It is not the right or right to decision of cops to decide who is worthy of police assistance. Everyone get due process and when even denied to 1 person 1 time - the cancer of injustice and tyranny begin to consume everything. Yes even the worst criminal ever caught red handed on tape - gets due process. Why? Innocent til proven guilty.

More disturbing though - it doesnt matter if "they" had "permission" to stay or not, THEFT occured. Thats how we get 3rd degree theft in shoplifting charges - doors not locked but a theft happens. EPD FAILED again by using thier infamous "officer discretion".

QUOTED "I mean, it's not like a police officer is obligated to leave a note, a card, make a phone call, or anything to let you know they found someone in your home..." YES in fact they ARE obligated to its thier job and they know that - standard proceedure.

SUICIDAL - again EOD FAILS to use the standard proceedure set for use in all PDs. Whether by negligance, accident, or intent the result was the same - a man who needed help died needlessly even though several people attempted to keep contact. We can almost see the militant pig mentality oozing through like congealed blood.

VAGRANT - When a cop encounters someone who is a danger to themselves YES they are obligated to involuntarily commit them for as long as 3 days (72 hours)for mental evals. BUT because standard proceedure was not followed due to "officer discretion" - another man dead. Its beyond outrageous!

So workingvolunteermom, these "stories" (which are documented actual incidents)maybe seem boring and not relevant to you - they in fact are based from the roots of our American credo that millions fought, died and killed for since the middle of the 1700s. Please dont take this as a "so there!" because it is not, these are explanations that you and others may not be aware of thats all.

EPD and thier macho attitudes, religious beliefs, polictial ideology, and personal feelings all of it - are to be checked at the door. Like when college kids walk/run in the street (not sidewalk) cops never make a sound, but when it was the Black man "kevin" walking there he was harrased a lot. So much so that when he was arrested for camping in the woods (as transients do) a group of us went to his hearing to ensure he wasnt railroaded by our local legal system.
RE: And here we go again. byJSmith1 week ago (3 votes) (report abuse)
Garry hit the nail on the head with his reply, so I'm only left to wonder, how BORED would you be if it was YOUR child dead as a result of the professional's NEGLECT to follow through with appropriate procedures? I also guarantee you wouldn't be bored while cleaning up your house after the robbers who were ALLOWED THERE BY POLICE. And when your ten-year-old finds the smutty porn video in her bedroom and her pet DEAD, will you tell her how BORING you find it all? Will you then be bored in court while the justice system lets the robbers walk free with a week's time served on only the most minimal charges? OR, how about when your child grows up and is stalked by a crazy man, will you feel safe knowing she has a piece of paper to protect her?? Will it bore you when police let the man go free after violating said order only to return to kill her?? -- I must add at this point that this is precisely why so many woman do not speak out against their abusers - because they KNOW the LAW will NOT protect them. Look up the stats for yourself. I'm glad you've led such a wonderful crime-free life to find so much boredom in the unnecessary and preventable tragedies of others...I truly hope you never have to experience these kinds of things - but I also hope you realize that these things DO happen, that our system is grossly flawed, and everyone contributes to the perpetuation of injustice, ESPECIALLY the apathetic.

Thank you for your comments Garry, I couldn't have said it better myself. Nice to know SOMEONE is paying attention and doing their homework. People are far too complacent and detached...until it happens to them, or their loved ones. How many more innocent people have to die for people to realize that the system allows this, that the law works for the criminals not the victims, that a piece of paper doesn't keep a madman from shooting an innocent woman, that just because a child molester served his time doesn't mean he doesn't have another child bound in his basement, that money can't buy good behavior (i.e. bail)...

Many here have asked the question or pointed a crooked finger "What is your identity" I will give the answer now.

I am the homeless veteran. I am the single mother with children living in public housing. I am the ill person with no means to use health care. I am the college kid who was murdered at Kent State. I am the person with potential that nobody will aknowledge because of thier own insecurities. I am the abused. When police and other related judicials need fodder for thier cannons of ambition I am the one...but WE are many.

I am the guy who was found dead under the bridge from exposure because the strong failed to help the weak. To all those who jeer and mock those less fortunate I say COME TO THE BRIDGE! To all those who say "you must meet these criteria to be aknowledged as a human" I say COME TO THE BRIDGE! More importantly to those who say "I want to help" "I need your help" or to those who have the heart to contribute for the betterment of us all I say "come to the bridge".

WE are the wretched refuse that lady liberty holds a torch to show the pathway to sanctuary. If a free society cannot help the many who are poor, it cannot save the few who are rich; the Bastille will be stormed. If the ghosts of of your conscience do not insire change the spirits of peaceful samaritans might, if the spirits of samaritans do not the spectre of neccessity may; if the spectre does not then the hammer of a just violent revolution will strike the anvil of injustice. It will make a terrible noise throught out the dark night until at dawn the hammering noise becomes the ringing of the bell of freedom and the song of equality shall be their anthem.

We take this stand NOT because thier is money to made in it, not because there is power to be gained, not because we believe ourselves better than others - but because it is RIGHT.

We will not tolerate jailing those with mental illness as criminals, nor the judicial harrasment of those who cannot afford adequate defense and thus are the victims of ambitous officials. What will we do?

We will pay any price, bear any burden, weather any storm, for our resolve is strong and unwavering. The barricades are forming and flag is raised - "DONT TREAD ON ME"

The enemy byGarryOwens1 week ago (1 votes) (report abuse) (reply)
Who are the enemies of Constitutional Freedoms? Who are the enemies of Equality? Who are the enemies of life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness?

They who seek to contain and control those who are weak, disadvantaged, poor, or simply look different; they are the enemies. Those who will force thier religions on others, those whose ambitions are achieved through the down trodding of others, and those who believe only the wealthy have rights. They are the ones who ignore the welfare of the weak for the sake of the strong and thier own judgements. They are the ones who incorrectly believe the words fair, justice, and equal are mutatable terms for thier profit. They are those who would advance thier agendas on the backs of those who cannot defend themselves like slaves in the cotton fields, Jews in the camps, cherokee on the trail of tears, and the chinese minors in Roslyn. They are the police, judges, prosecuters and jailers.

WE the people cannot blame nor hold culpable the ignorant, uneducated, immature, or hopeless; but we must inform, educate and embolden them with the truth. That truth must be proven with sincerity and that sincerity proven with competent evidence.

Dissent. We Americans have the constitutional right to dissent and by various means. We can ask questions, make petitions, march in protest, demonatrate by assembly and change it by election. But what if these solutions provided us by our nations sacred documents fail us? We the people have the right to armed dissent if neccessary. Those fail-safes were created to keep what IS happening FROM happening and the longer we wait the worse it will get.

Some will say "but what about my home, family, possesions, my goals and my life that I have now, I have no problem with the status quo" Yes, those things are yours because you achieved them, and you were able to achieve them because others before you prepared the way with blood, sweat and tears. The generation of the 70s fought to change the voting age from 21 to 18 inspired by the injustice of the Vietnam war, the generation of the 60s changed laws to provide all with equality and better civil rights, those of the 50s worked to strengthen our nation, and those billions who died in two World Wars did so that we may keep them and give the inheritance of liberty to our children and thier children. Do you think the enemy will stop at achieving only thier 1st goal? No sir, they will continue up the ranks of those they deam unworthy until it comes to you my friend and you will exclaim "how did it get this bad"; and those who perished before you will answer "because you let it get to this point".

The enemy is not the unaware but those who are aware and do nothing, but those unaware can be made aware - by WE the people as well as the enemy - and so they must be shown.

A chain is only as strong as its weakest link. So, when the strong links become stronger by using the metal of the weak links - the chain snaps and becomes shorter etc until theres is nothing left but 1 link and they turn in on themselves consuming until all is gone.

If you are not able to fight there are those who will fight for you,
but if you are UNWILLING to fight beside us - you are assisting the enemy as a collaberator.

So I ask the questions: Is what you have so precious and dear it is worth the lives of your countrymen? How much did it cost you? Are the things you have worth paying for with the chains of tyranny? How many would you oppress and kill for a new car? Is it worth the extra cash gained through higher power costs that the wealthy can afford while the poor are with out heat or evicted? Is the body and soul of the strong more value than the weak? Who gave them yardstick to measure such things or even the right? When did oppresion of the weak and poor become a part of Christianity, Bhuddism, or any other religious credo? When did it become "ok"?

When did it become right?
