is that kayak a sevylor or however its spelled? I have seen some online auction reasonable thought about getting one heard not so cold on the bottom in very cold water. And dont have to use moving van and trailer to get them around if have portable compresor too thats quick.

Guys, yes, that is me on my Advanced Elements inflatable kayak just coming in from the river into what we used to call Wade's Pond, now just an extension of the river at Gladmar Park in Thorp (behind the Fruit Stand).

These are great for the Yak, and can be stored in your trunk, then inflated in 5 minutes or less. I also have a Firefly, made by the same company, which I don't recommend on the river, but is good to retrieve ducks if you dont have a Lab. There is no downside on the AE except anyone over 200lbs should possibly get a slightly larger model. And, kayak junkie that I am, I have a Strait-Edge tandem, also made by AE, which is a sit-on type and has rod holders. This is great for one guy paddling and one guy fishing. Much better than a riverboat in high or low water in my opinion.
Kayaks are Great... byAureliux6 months ago (3 votes) (report abuse) (reply)
I have 3 of them. No inflatables though. Am wondering about a good place to put in where I could go upstream a ways, then drift down to where I parked. Know of one place like that but it's a long ways down the canyon, south of town almost to Selah.

Is there a place like that down behind the old mill? Water doesn't look too fast in some places along there but I don't quite know where to put in.

My first one was one of those made of kevlar, called a Xytek and of all things, I didn't check the weight rating. So it won't quite plane on top of the water like it should IF I'm in it. :-)

Got a cheap plastic one at Costco and it's OK, still won't track right without a rudder when I pick up the pace.

Found a real nice 14' WITH a rudder and it's fantastic BUT it's a pain in the sitter to haul around.

So with the inflatable, will it track straight and true on it's own? Is there too much above water for lakes in the wind? Once in a while I like to hit Lake Cle Elum and ride the rollers when things get rough, don't know how one of those would act.

When I was on the other side of the hill used to go north from the Des Moines marina to the first point up and back, was a pretty good work out.

Went out several times on the Carey Lakes this past summer, got to see an osprey make some good catches and there's carp swimming around.

Boy, that's a bit tough. Actually, right where this picture was taken, at Wade's pond is a good place to paddle. With the inflatables, tracking is not a problem on the river. Ive never entered still water so I cannot say how they would track there. They do have aluminum struts so they may be OK. Wind would be a problem on a lake, I think.

Carp in Peoples Pond? Say it aint so!! Do you remember that name?
Yeah, carp. Peoples Pond? byAureliux6 months ago (2 votes) (report abuse) (reply)
Never heard Peoples Pond but there are carp in there. Some big ones, too. When the cottonwood seeds hit the water I've seen them come up and eat them. Second pond in, far left corner in the shallow water is where I've seen most of them hang out in a big school. Summertime when it gets really hot I'll get in there as soon as the gates are opened and have that whole place to myself for several hours. It can be pretty nice except for the I-90 noise.

And you know, the carp really aren't that bad to eat? Never caught or kept one from in there though. Need to be kept alive and put in really clean fresh water for about 24 hours so they cycle all the mud out of their system through their scales and it makes an incredible difference. Then if only you can get through the little problem of that nice white fish turning blue when you cook it...

Where might one put in if they wanted to try an upstream entrance into Wade's Pond? If the current isn't too incredibly swift I can go against the flow in a half way decent fashion.

One really nice float once upon a time when I had someone to pick me up was the trip from Ensign Ranch to the golf course. Took about 4 hours and the water was fairly well behaved. Don't know if I'd try something like that now with all the new log jams and sweepers still around from last year's floods.

Have spend some time out on Lake Cle Elum, really like Cooper Lake, and camped out up at Tuquollah or however Fish Lake is spelled these days, in September. Good times!

Best yet though was having a cow orca with a calf swim right by me out on the sound. Will forever wish I could have had a pic of that. Unbelievable how fast they can move.

Peoples Pond bylordoflys6 months ago (1 votes) (report abuse) (reply)
Peoples Pond is what we called the lake back in high school days. I equate PP with the Outrageous Taco that, of course, is now the Valley Cafe. The OT really did have the best taco this side of the Rio Grande.
I sometimes wish the VC would offer a "retro menu" that included the taco and the outrageously hot salsa they made for it. Best I ever had...
