Sounds good to me, care to expand upon that fine idea and lend us all some good positive examples?

RE: Fresh blood byClem10 months ago (2 votes) (report abuse)
I would agree that outside Ellensburg all of the communities in the county could use an enfusion of fresh blood whether it be newcomers or people who havent participated in politics. The most recent filing period for elected offices most are running unnopposed. The main qualification seems to be when their is opposition is "did you grow up in the County?". There has to be more than that but more than half the voters in the County simply vote on name recognition and if they know the person. I think a tipping point for the Upper County communities is still aways off. In the case of one of the Upper County governments it seems half the "elected" officials are simply collecting a paycheck.
A vision for the future.... byMC10 months ago (3 votes) (report abuse) (reply)
... that encompasses more than just next week/month/year and more than just people who currently have money.

18.6%- that's nearly one in every 5- people in the county were below the official poverty limit as of 2000.* Many of these are children, and I've found indications that things haven't improved over the years since that census.** Of course there's probably another good sized lump of working folks who are skating somewhere just above that poverty level, trying to make do as best they can from paycheck to paycheck.

There currently seems to be very little direct focus on what's going on there and how to include those people in Kittitas Co's future. Do their voices matter?

Money or Vision for the Future? byClem9 months ago (4 votes) (report abuse) (reply)
Looking just at the Upper County I have often thought we could use a few more individuals with money. As far as getting stuff done in Cle Elum why does it take an "outside" group to prod the city to clean up the street shoulders and then takes on the job of cleaning up litter and painting fire hydrants?

Single Women. Rumor has it going on that there is plenty out there problem is getting things together.
Check out free dating site looks as good as Match or any of the other paid dating pages.
http://www.plentyoffish.com/ Have never seen anything like it. No spam, no bait and switch.
Waste of time running ads for dating on CraigsList.Org Been there done that it is a loosing proposition.
KXLE radio has a free dating site. Looks like it's never used and there might be a half dozen users sitting there.
Not too much action in this town for the 40+ singles that want to mix and meet.

Single men/Single women in county byamandor29 months ago (4 votes) (report abuse) (reply)
Used to be no problem finding other singles. 'Course most were considered throw-backs until the pool of possibilities narrowed. Then, marriage, children, divorce, alimony, maintenance support, child support, etc., high school/college reunions with first second third marriages along the way. Who would have ever thought we would end up UNHAPPILY single? Wouldn't we think it a relief to be rid of all the hassles? Guess not. I think for those of us over 50 and hoping for a "last chance" at blissful union, there are, indeed, others eagerly seeking and available for same. IF these near seemingly extinct AND much sought after creatures could be located by what criteria would we evaluate the suitability of THE match? Used to be easy when our criteria was shallow and extremely temporal. Ooh, she looks good (and which areas would that assessment be referring to?), and ooh, he looks like a "winner" (what was "winner" defined as anyway?) Could it be a fit body, full head of hair, well-endowed pocket book? How crass that all sounds, and how many of us have been on both sides of that assessment method? None of that seems too important at this end of the life continuum, does it? NEWFLASH: There are human beings (male and female) seeking a connection of the highest order AND they are in places you least expect and usually right in front of you!

Best of luck, y'all... I found one of those illusive creatures in Kittitas County (well two, actually, but had to throw one back) so where there is one (or two) there are more!

Fun to have something different and much more primal to discuss, yes?
RE: Single men/Single women in county byPhoenix Rising9 months ago (3 votes) (report abuse)
Propose a singles something somewhere sometime? Where? Who would set it up? Pool? Bowling alley?
Rent out the meeting room at the Moose Lodge one Friday night and seeif anyone shows up?
Primal. Why does that sound interesting.
Phoenix Rising re: Singles byamandor29 months ago (4 votes) (report abuse) (reply)
I, personally, have aversion to "organized" anything; however, if I was younger I might try "speed dating" because it sounds odd, but efficient. In major metropolitan areas it might work, but Ellensburg? I don't think so. Everyone pretty much knows everyone anyway, so don't think speed dating would generate any new or diversified interest. PRIMAL...? I mostly meant topic more basic and instinctual in nature. Something that fuels discussion on multiple levels all at same time. Kinda like rubbing stomach while patting top of head or vice versa. What does primal suggest to you?

Moose Lodge Toy Drive... byAureliux9 months ago (3 votes) (report abuse) (reply)
I went last year. Had a BLAST, good times all the way around AND I understand that a good amount of funds were raised for the children's Christmas toy gift program.

Planning on going again this year. Anyone else on here ever go? Know of another good charity coming up, and want to post it?

KXLE does their zillion penny thing, and I don't mind supporting that, either.

My Mom and Dad, brothers and I all go in together to put together a Christmas Basket for the community Christmas Basket program. We have done this for several years, we can't give a lot, but feel everything we do helps. This is another great way to give back.
RE: Another good Charity byAureliux9 months ago (3 votes) (report abuse)
Would you like to share with us the details of the when where why and how to do this? It sounds like a good project and I've heard of it before but without all the information...

Thanks!

A.
RE: Another good Charity byworkingvolunteermom9 months ago (4 votes) (report abuse)
I will check into it and get you the info. It is just something we do as a family for Christmas, but it does help other families who are hurting. We provide a Christmas meal, gifts, and other food supplies. I will get back to you!
RE: Another good Charity byworkingvolunteermom9 months ago (4 votes) (report abuse)
Finally getting back to you on the Christmas Basket program. Sorry, had a sick kiddo and work on top of that! You can contact Nita Bowers at 925-1604, and leave a message. She is the program coodinator and will be able to give you dates to sign up to adopt a family and dates to drop of your basket supplies. Also she told me that the program is looking for space. The armory may not be available to them this year, and they will need a building at least that big to organize and house the goods. If anyone knows of one let her know. Thanks, it is a wonderful program!

Huh?

I'm missing something... maybe a previous post? Or are you replying to one?

Perhaps you should have eaten a little breakfast before posting your menu of mouth watering, culinary preferences. Chateau Briand with Peach Cobbler for dessert--my choice. Are you cooking or is The Cottage Cafe? Either way it sounds marvelous! OR maybe you are suggesting some alternative menu items for Thanksgiving?

Whole roasted borrego? What's that?

RE: Peach Cobbler, et. al. byAureliux8 months ago (3 votes) (report abuse)
Whole Roasted Borrego: Goat. ONE restaurant in town does serve a magnificent borrego platter, by the way. And it's excellent. Always a toss up between that and carne asada for me when I am there. And they also make a pretty good margarita. Not sure if they are making their own salsa but it sure is better than average, too!

Could have stopped in to see if there was any peach cobbler last night. Looked a little crowded and I was wanting to get back to my own home court. Will see if I get out in that direction today or tomorrow.

Fiesta en (el?) Jalisco S end of Eburg. HAVE not seen their menu in a while, do not know if it's still on there. But it is done just right, two good heavy shanks with all the magnificent south of the border trimmings and fixings. Definitely is a meal fit for a king. I don't end up with any left overs to take home from my helping but I should...

Their carne asada is really good too.

Saturday Night Dec. 5 E-burg Moose Lodge... byAureliux7 months ago (3 votes) (report abuse) (reply)
Hi Everyone,

JUST in case you might be tired of the narrow minded one lane discussion with no conclusion on the sordid story of the Oak Rail and it's apparent demise...

AND if you want to use a little good positive energy for something good instead of crabbing about things now in the past?

COME to the "Toys for Tots" benefit at the Ellensburg Moose Lodge this Saturday night!

AND we could be discussing, further, the Christmas Basket thing which sounds really interesting to me...

AND we could be discussing, further, the KXLE Million Penny Drive...

Wasn't it last year that one particular person tried to complain about charities only working for "FAMILIES" and he was mad about it? Wonder where good ol' Snorkus is these days? He should come out and play, learn some positive behavior, and work with us to improve things instead of always being negative and/or ALWAYS being critical.

I am going to have a great weekend. I will not be perched on the edge of a keyboard eagerly waiting to pounce...

So everyone else please have a happy and safe 1st weekend of December.

A.

I agree...I'm sooooooo tired of the Oak Rail obsession. Some folks just don't have enough going on in their lives if they have to sneak around and film college kids partying. It's a bit creepy actually.

The Toys for Tots gig is a good time. Beer, auction items, rock and roll and all to support a good cause- toys for underprivileged kids. This is a great place to live, you just have to get off the couch/computer and experience it.

IT WAS GREAT. Looked as though it was better attended than last year? I didn't get there as early as I wanted and ended up sitting in the bar area and couldn't hear the music or announcements.

But it appeared as though everyone had a real good time.

Re: This county needs more... byworkingvolunteermom7 months ago (3 votes) (report abuse) (reply)
Activites for youth! Yep it does. Birthday parties are difficult in the winter months. Bowling, movies or swimming. We lucked out and planned a party around the Scrooge play at Central. Was a great play and the kids had fun and were entertained.

Snow, I agreed these cold temps would have been easier to handle with a little snow on the ground for insulation. Going to be really dry next summer if we don't get any, even though I dread driving in it, we need it!

Shopping options. I agree! Most of my clothing in the last 5 years has been purchased at Goodwill or St. Vinny's. I also purchase family clothing at these stores, but at the beginning of the school year, new clothes are important. I miss JC Penneys. Everyone in this community does not have the option of driving to Yakima or Seattle. In my case, I really don't think the gas money is worth it, I can survive, but understand the others who would like some options, as I would too.

Hope everyone had a Happy Thanksgiving and is staying warm. Hopefully, we will warm up and get some snow!
