May I suggest that you report this!!!
Angel Girl byCleElum1 January 02, 2009 (2 votes) (report abuse)
Most definitely, sorry about my fustration showing. I couldn't get on, get out, post for ever. I kept getting the "can not display" page and had to backup or start over sooo many times. Everytime I'd get something typed, just about the time I'm ready to hit the "submit" button I'd lose my connecton. After a couple of hours of this I just gave it up until I had a chance here at work where I can use the computer for part of my shift tonight and explain my dilemma.

I'll be contacting KVTalks even if I have to call them by phone.

Strange, huh, ... no ones owned up to the post. What's up with that?
WebMaster mess up byCleElum1 January 02, 2009 (2 votes) (report abuse) (reply)
I was able to use the edit button though because my username is on it, interesting !?!

Could just delete it too but I want KVTalks when I get ahold of them to see it as it was posted. Don't know if it make a difference to the web IT guys when it's checked out or not?
Angel Girl byCleElum1 January 02, 2009 (2 votes) (report abuse) (reply)
I decided not to wait to e-mail KVTalks and wonder if my internet is good enough later today to do it. I used the p.c. from work and asked them not to respond to the address here at work, but gave them my own e-mail address to let me know what happended. If I don't hear anything from them after a couple of days I'll try calling.
My advice byMC January 02, 2009 (2 votes) (report abuse)
Change your password ASAP, then start scanning your home box for viruses and spyware. I think you said you're on dial up, so you could be behind on windows updates as well... you'll have to get it in to someplace with high speed access to get all those.
RE: Angel Girl byCleElum1 January 02, 2009 (1 votes) (report abuse)
Hey Mc,

No new updates to get, I keep up on it. Ran all security tools, which I do everyday anyway, and only found one tracking cookie, no viruses.

I think two posts, mine and somebody else was trying to be posted at the same moment and the system mixed and matched one name with the other post.
Suggestions bysnorkus January 02, 2009 (1 votes) (report abuse) (reply)
Clean up disk, defragment, scan virus/spyware, get all updates. However - dial up is just about to go extinct that may be the problem as well. Afew ISP's were down for a time recently. also SOMETIMES a "system restore" to an earlier functioning time works. If using wireless heavy snowfall and fog can cause problems.
Stolen Passwords byClem January 02, 2009 (3 votes) (report abuse) (reply)
A few years ago someone got hold of my password on an e-mail account and used it to send 500 spam porn e-mails out. I had a lot of e-mails basically telling me where to go from people who had gotten the e-mails. My last spyware problem that I had a lot of trouble with I used a program called Super Anti-Spyware that worked. Trouble with a lot of the Anti-Spyware stuff out there is they are actually spywares.
RE: Stolen Passwords byMC January 02, 2009 (2 votes) (report abuse)
Clem is right- there has been a recent rash of viruses/spyware that masquerade as ANTI virus/spyware. They'll often flash something at people saying "you're infected, click here now!" or "you're infected, pay us to remove it now!"

Free GOOD anti virus (Note that you don't want to have more than one anti virus running at once, so McAffie or Norton or whatever has to be removed before installing a new one):

Free GOOD anti spyware (you can have more than one of these installed):

YES what worked for that problem I found was a system retore to an earlier time.

I use AVG, Lavasoft Ad-Aware, Spybot, and Rogue Remover, along with C Cleaner, Disk Cleanup, Disk Defragging, Web Security Guard, and Privacy Cleanup. I keep everything updated. I have no shortage of tools, ha! And I use most daily, while others every two to three days.

I'm not on dial up, although I might as well be since Cascade 1 is the slowest thing next to dial-up.
Best Clean 'r Upper I've Found Yet... byAureliux January 03, 2009 (1 votes) (report abuse) (reply)
Iobit has a free version and a paid one. I've been using their freebie for about two months. AVG is really good. I also use Avira AntiVir Personal which is also has a free version. Spybot and Adaware are good. I strongly suggest ALSO getting a decent firewall. The best I ever had was called Black Ice but it's kind of expensive. Sometimes I like the free PC Tools firewall, other times I use Zone Alarm. Guess it depends on which PC I'm using because I don't use the same one on all four of them.

I have test driven and used the full blown expensive whole meal deal from Norton and McA. After using them for a while I thought they caused more problems than they solved and the yearly expense to keep it upgraded was more than I liked to spend. THEN I tried to uninstall them and found there's sticky little things they put in there that can REALLY screw up a good system. Had to spend more than $70.00 to get one of them out of ONE of my PC's to get it to work right after I quit using their program.

There are all kinds of good free stuff to download and use on line. Can all be found in one nice easy place called:

http://majorgeeks.com/

And here's the happy little introductory message from iobit:

Hi, I found this great free tool -- Advanced SystemCare -- at www.iobit.com. It heals and speeds up my PC in just 1 click, so that I do not have to re-install my Windows or purchase a new computer. It is the simplest way to protect, clean, repair, and optimize my PC. I also find that it can scan and fix what other tools miss. I really like it and best of all, it is completely free. They do not insert adware to your PC and they do not spy on you. Advanced SystemCare has received very positive reviews from publications such as Forbes, CNET and PC Magazine. It will keep your PC error-free and running smoother than ever. You can download it for free at http://www.iobit.com/advancedwindowscareper.html

And if you like to use something like Microsoft Office with Word and Excel but don't want to spend the big bucks to get it? Sun Microsystems created Open Office which is free, works as good if not better than the MS Office, and the only thing it does not have is Outlook. You can find that on MajorGeeks.Com, too. BIG file, takes a while to download but it sure beats the expense of buying it from MS.

Oo is really great. I won't be paying for another copy of Office any time soon.

If a person gets really sick of all these back flips just to keep Windows secure, another option to consider is Ubuntu linux (there are actually many other linux distros but right now this is probably the most 'user friendly' out there). You can download it from Ubuntu.com & burn the ISO onto a CD (or ask them to send you one and they'll do it for cost), pop the disk in, and it will run off the CD at bootup so you can check it out. It comes right out of the can with Firefox and I think Thunderbird installed, so web browsing and email is taken care of.

My last computer purchase came with linux on it instead of windows and I've really liked it. I'm a little locked in with Photoshop right now on my main box, but going to a MAC eventually is an option I'll consider.

Vista may be the next ME, the operating system that died quietly only not soon enough. Windows 7 is going to have to be REALLY good if I'm going to keep rolling with Microsoft.
RE: Best Clean 'r Upper I've Found Yet... byZHawkeye January 03, 2009 (2 votes) (report abuse)
If your looking for an Outlook-type program, Mozilla Firefox's answer to that is Thunderbird, and you can download it from mozilla.org . I'm with MC on Windows -- I'm working on Vista and really don't like it. My latest battle was the DRM getting screwed up. As a result, every time I tried to access half my files, it said I didn't have access or permission.

If you are using Mozilla Firefox, and like just surfing the internet randomly, I highly recommend this little add-on to Firefox.

https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/138

It's called StumbleUpon. Now, on my firefox, I click the "Stumble!" button and I'm taken to a random interesting website. I can give it a thumbs up or a thumbs down, and eventually, the program knows what kind of sites I'd be interested in seeing, so I get more of those. I have a lot of fun with it... and waste a lot of time.
RE: Best Clean 'r Upper I've Found Yet... byAureliux January 04, 2009 (1 votes) (report abuse)
Firefox is GREAT, I've been using the whole meal deal Mozilla Suite for quite a while. T-bird stand alone is fine, I gave it a test drive. For some reason I get grief over multiple e-mail addresses and getting the correct outgoing servers just right. Then when I set it up for an IMAP account it all blew up and nothing would send through anything.

But it still does not quite take the place of Outlook for me. Fiddled around with that Incredimail and it's got some neat features BUT I couldn't get it to run IMAP either. And it seems to have some dingbat functions that act suspiciously like spyware that might attract other things that I don't want to look at.

As far as browsing around for fun, I have Opera set with all kinds of tabs. Can crank it up and have all my news pages in one place with weather and my ebay and amazon stuff up all at once. And it's a freebie too. Quite often the pages don't refresh when I open it up and now other browsers will support multiple tabbed pages that are all open at the same time. Opera seems to work best for me for quick side to side clicking on different pages. And it's easy to rip through it after I open it up to refresh all the pages one after the other.

Tried another browser for a while called Maxthon and I wasn't impressed.

Had never heard of that Linux system called Ubuntu. Last good project I had heard of on that was called Red Hat and it wasn't always free. Thanks for setting me up with that, I downloaded it right away.

Have tried a few other e-mail clients along the way. Foxmail used to be free, tried that once and quit. I also tried Eudora and Pegasus.

There WAS a nifty little program that would tweak the settings for T-bird and other mail clients so you could read and respond to Yahoo mail. I ran that for a while and it was pretty neat. Have seen the same thing for AOL users but it isn't free.

RE: CledElum1 byAngel Girl January 03, 2009 (2 votes) (report abuse)
Good evening my on line friend,my day went well.

I had to work a double yesterday, my evening cashier phoned in sick "AGAIN" I'm thinking she will not have a job after this week-end

I really hate to do this...she misses at least one day a week giving the same excuse..."she is sick" I need someone dependable and is willing to work.

I failed to ask....how was your day?
RE: Angel Girl byCleElum1 January 03, 2009 (2 votes) (report abuse)
Yah, I understand the frustration of people that you can't depend on. I work with many who not only call in sick(?), show up late, and don't do their jobs when there. It's corporate with a seniority comes first attitude. It's just as frustrating for me to do their jobs and mine, cover for them when they are late, and work for them when they take time off. Too bad that people are like that really. And on a weekly bases, too, I know ...

My day was just another day. I'm watching the history channel about "the seven deadly sins". They are on anger right now.

Preprayed cards sound good! I am sure that I could easily find a way to distribute the first twelve!

I came down through Cle Elum yesterday and viewed the piles. Incredible.

Do you know how to tell who the out of fuel customer is, in Rozlynn on a Monday morning at 3:00 AM? He's the guy running through 10" of fresh snow behind my truck wearing nothing but a bathrobe and a pair of slippers waving a flashlight back and forth while I'm looking for his address...

But I like the idea of bottled youthful energy and joy, too! Along with a Free Parking for Angels sign, Positive Energy Welcome, and zero tolerance for negative spirits.

Anyone remember Johnny Horton's Spring Time in Alaska song? Good tune.

Jim Reeves and the Blizzard. Theres a real sad song. We had a young boy die in the snow in Roslyn a few years ago, never made it home. Recently a young girl died in Idaho trying to hike home through the snow. That was also vert sad.
