A.,
Thanks for the offer of shoveling! That was the best offer I've had in a long, long time. Hope you know that I would never stand by and let an "elder" shovel for me, ha!

Angel Girl,
Glad you finally got cooler weather!
RE: Hey Everyone byAngel Girl December 21, 2008 (2 votes) (report abuse)
How young is Aurelix????

I'm willing to bet that I am older! Ha!!Ha!!

Our cool weather will only last until Monday evening...then it will turn warm again.
RE: Hey Everyone byCleElum1 December 21, 2008 (2 votes) (report abuse)
Got a buck and I'll bet your not younger, if your talking years. I bet he's well over 65.

When I talk "elder" I'm talking "tribal elder". Tribal elders are treated differently then most elders out here.

I wish your cooler weather would last longer. Enjoy it while you can.

I got the snow rearranged for today. Have to do it again if it snows tonight like they're talking.

Hello, Angel Girl! You're quite the stranger, aren't you? :)

I just thought I'd ask anyone if they knew anything about human growth hormone?

My youngest, has been diagnosed with a growth disorder and has been going to Children's Hospital to see an endocronologist for a year and a half. He is so tiny (but very CUTE!!) that he's not even on the charts(less than 3%). They aren't sure what's going on with him and have done a number of tests as a process of elimation. Their current theory is that his body doesn't produce the right amount of growth hormone.

My next appointment is in January. We have to be at Children's at 7:45 a.m. My son will have to fast, be hooked up to an IV and given a certain medication to see how his body reacts to this hormone. For the next four hours they will draw his blood every fifteen minutes! Can't wait to get this appointment over!

As you can imagine, this is quite stressful. I know he'll be okay! Everything else with his is just fine! But, I'm tired of him going through all these tests.

I've done some research, but, I'd like to hear information from others. If anyone knows anything about growth disorders or human growth hormone, please let me know.

Usually it's called HGH and the first place I'd look is in the health section of MSNBC.Com They do have a topic search section.

Other than that I don't know anything about it.

Good luck to you, best wishes for you and all your family through this difficult time, and I will add you and your child to my prayers.

Angel Girl,
There wasn't a date in Jan. posted so I thought I'd ask now that we're more than half way thru the month and I haven't heard anything. Is the appointment for the test still to come?
RE: Human growth hormone byAngel Girl January 19, 2009 (1 votes) (report abuse)
Our baby's appointment will be January 28 at Childrens Hospital

You are such a kind hearted lady to remember him at this most difficult time for us.

We have been praying for him and have placed him in God's hands.

I will keep you posted on his test results.

Thank you Aureliux for your support and prayers as my daughter,son-in-law and I face this difficult time.

I should also include my granddaughter, my oldest grandson and my son-in-laws family!!!! I can honestly say...we are one "BIG" happy family and love our grandbabies more than life itself!!!!
RE: Human growth hormone byAngel Girl January 21, 2009 (2 votes) (report abuse)
For the christians that read this.....

My grandson is need of your prayers. He is a 2 year old baby, suffering from a growth harmone disorder. He has an appointment January 28, at the Childrens Hospital in Seattle.

The day of his appointment the Specialist will give him an IV..then, every 15-30 minutes he will draw blood (if you could see how tiny his arms are.. you would be as concerned as we are as, to "HOW" and "where" they will find a spot to stick him)

I have already researched another Doctor with Ochsner's Hospital in New Orleans...all of us in this area know the fine reputation Ochsner's has so, if we feel we need a second opinion we are set and ready.

Thank you,

Angel Girl and family

Not Stand By...OK byAureliux December 21, 2008 (1 votes) (report abuse) (reply)
So I'd let you grab a chair to watch? :-)

A buck for hitting my age, my goodness gracious. Or ... Was I really at the Monterey Pop Festival in 1964 to hear Brian Jones introduce Jimi Hendrix for the first time? Yes, I really know who Brian Jones is, and still think one of the other band members from the Stones had him killed after that...

Thought for sure one of you once said early on after I started waxing most eloquently on here that you knew who I was?

What shall we do, turn this into a forum wide contest? Should there be a prize? We would have to disqualify anyone who really knows me already, just in case they are out there and in our forums.

Deadline for guessing, and would I have to finally and totally crawl out into the forum light and properly introduce my true self?

How about this? Not ONLY have to guess my age, but from your impressions of me on here; you have to also write a description of what you think I look like. How tall, how heavy, do I have hair on my head? What do you think I do for employment? Eyesight still OK, reading glasses, contacts, or regular glasses all the time? OR, have I been on TV?

Should we let this run until perhaps Thursday morning then I'll spill the beans? Any chance I can get away with continuing to remain anonymous on here?

Could decide to be at Taqueria Martin again this Friday night. Don't know if I could make it to the Cottage from here with the weather cranking around like it has been.

SO discuss it if you want, or perhaps you don't care and that is fine, too.

Whatever we do, let's have some fun with it.

BUT I am not too old to help out with a snow shovel. I can do stealth help like Santa Claus. By the time you notice that I've been there, the gift has been delivered! Ho ho ho! :-)

You get to check out that last series of pics I uploaded?

Soup is turning out in divine proportions. Had too many shitakes so I fried some and they are now gone and were very good. Just waiting now for the lentils to cook through then I'm adding some corn, chopped spinach... then the bean thread followed by the rice noodles.

Hey A.,

Okay dokey about the chair, but Ive been known to mind like a house on fire, ha.

Here's my two bits worth, your somewhere between 70 and 75 yrs. young. That's the best I can do is a generational thing. Can't say much about the other options like hair, eyes, T.V. and such, so I guess that's about two bits worth???

You are "ON" Aureliux!!!!!!

I have to go to work in just a bit...."BUT" when I return, I will try to figure out your age..height and etc. Ha!!!

Have a good day while I think about this!!!

By the way, the child you are praying for....is my grandson. God bless you for your kind words and prayers...
So Here we go, byAureliux December 22, 2008 (2 votes) (report abuse)
The game is on, so let us see how many want to participate. How long should we allow it to go on, and will I have to come clean in the end and tell the truth? Do I have to give up my anonymity in the end?

Very best wishes, good thoughts, and sincere prayers for your grandson. I can definitely identify with all your feelings towards doing anything that might help improve his health.

I had one very brief encounter with a serious health issue regarding one of the children I was trying to adopt when they were with me. Did not appear serious to anyone else, but I felt that something might have been wrong so I took him to the doctor. Turned out to be something that could be fixed at that time without too much trouble or trauma BUT the doc said that if I hadn't done that, at that time, there would have been serious life long consequences that never would have been fixed.

On another note, I think it's rather cute that someone may be too wound up and cranky to let me play The Happy Snow Shoveler. Sounds like some good, unique, solid American made character to me.

I, quite often, don't mind well or do what I'm supposed to do, either! Seem to be always able to stop with my one margarita about once a month, or less! Will walk out in the snow barefoot! And I haven't bothered to put up a Christmas tree in over 20 years.

Hope everyone has a good week, Happy Monday! Stay safe out in this wonderful winter wonderland weather, and I'll drop in again and forum chat around some more, probably tonight.

Looks like Snoqualmie got open again, Sea-Tac isn't doing so well on the west side. Appears as though little or nothing is going in or out and the airports are backed up all over the place.

May just have to think about baking some bread tonight. Haven't done that for a while.

Sorry, if you think I'm too wound up or cranky to let you play the "happy snow shoveler". That was not my intent. All I'd ever want for you is for you to be "the happy anything you want". I hope you get to shovel to your hearts content.

As an "elder" it is my responsibility to pay you the respect due you as such and to do for you all that I can, in anyway I can. As well as to be quiet and listen, sooo, huuush CleElum1, ha!

Hello A.

I have been giving this some thought....

I'm thinking you may be around the age of: 45-55

You are about 5'10 - 6'0

Slim with muscular legs

You have dark hair with a little gray

You have all your teeth except that "one" you had extracted Ha!

You only wear glasses when you read and play chess

I am having a problem guessing your occupation...I know whatever it is...you enjoy doing it.

If I am dead wrong let me know...I am allowed two attempts...RIGHT???

You have ruff knees from praying...Ha!!Ha!!

Your house is very clean and organized...especially your kitchen!!!

How am I doing???

Monterey was in 1967 not 1964 so everyone needs to subtract three years from their calculations. I will go with 57 years Aure. As far as the rest might as well be generic. Mostly white, brown hair, brown eyes, ht 509, wt 175, wear glasses all the time, married of course. If you live in Eburg you work at the college most likely although a slim chance you are a state office.

RE:Who killed the Golden Stone bymoonlightmile December 29, 2008 (1 votes) (report abuse)
Hi Aureliux -

As you can tell by my handle (moonlight mile) I am a Stones fan as well. Regarding Brian Jones death - I believe Frank Thorogood made a death bed confession to killing him. I also read a news blurb today that Janet Lawson (a nurse who was present at Cotchford Farms on the night in question) also believed Frank did the deed. I don't know why you would think any of the other Stones would be involved.

I am very impressed you were at the Monterey Pop Festival. I was there only in spirit.
Had Heard the Confession ect. byAureliux December 29, 2008 (1 votes) (report abuse)
I had heard that, I kind of lean in that direction, but the whole thing of Mick wanting to take over... Too late to do anything about it now I suppose.

I can't believe you would do anything else other than "come clean and tell the truth". Would you be less than honorably? I think not! You're word is good enough for me, you wouldn't have to give up your anonymity, as far as I can see by simply answering the very questions you yourself posed. I'm sure there are many who fit a general discription. The balls in your court.

Tight booty?

Not if I am not allowed to shovel snow for a friend!

As far as occupation, if I'm still working I'm probably not really 75 years old now, am I? So, blue collar, white collar, academic, professional...

And I do love my job. It's awesome and I'm working with an incredible group of people.

OK, that's all you get for now. How long shall we allow this to run, to see if anyone else wants to get on board for a guess or two?

RE: Oh my Goodness... byCleElum1 December 23, 2008 (0 votes) (report abuse)
I still have you at over 70 and holding, ha! Yup, as a matter of fact I've known alot of guys over 70 who work for themselves and shovel snow, too. Not to include the Walmart door greeters but your not fond of Walmart, so ...

If I were to guess I'd say white, single, and straight. You've been married but have also been divorced at some time in the past. There again, odds are you've been married more than once.

Tight booty? Well, realistically its probaly not that big and sags some, while you also have "love-handles" or alittle more belly than you really need. You are clean shaven, got some hair loss on the roof top, and are a fairly big guy.

As for occupation, I'd say you have had a diverse array of jobs in your lifetime, but mostly blue collar, if not all. I'd be curious as to what it is your presently doing?

Yesterday I heard a funny ... I was sitting at the counter of the Cottage when I overheard 4 of those 70 (give-or-take) agers talking. One of them said, "yup, ain't nothing better than a sturdy woman who likes to shovel snow" One of the other guys said, "not unless she's got a good salary too" To that they all agreed!!!! I just laughed my arse off!

Hey Angel Girl,

I tried for 7 hrs yesterday to "get on and get out" but couldn't. Wish I had better options for net. It's such a "rip- ".Can't believe I spent good money, paid-in-full for such lousy service.

I'm O.K. JD's O.K. I'll fill-in at work Thurs. and Fri. It doesn't really help financially since I don't make more, but will hopefully keep unemployment off my back. A day here and a day there just messes up getting any unemployment, so they should be happy.

Is your cook sick or have cut back on help?

So far the weather service has been hit and miss because of the way the storms have been tracking coming off the Pacific hitting Oregon and heading North.

Don't know how to give out hints without messing things up for the rest of our fine crew.
Glad I got straightened out with the correct year of the Monterey Pop Festival.
Interesting comments on playing chess, wonder what I may have done that could have resulted in someone thinking that I play?
Suppose it would be very safe to say that I'm not 75 years old!
Take a look at the last two pics I put up? Thought someone might like to see some winter wonderland scenery from around here. Or, I suppose, from around the Cle Elum and West Taneum areas.
Still hoping a few other people might like to weigh in. Next few days I may be a bit scarce with a few things that I have to do but I'll check back in when I can, OK?
See if you can all agree on when, and then I'll see about perhaps filling in a few blanks for you, OK?

Hint time for the pending mighty mystery at the Happy KV Forum.

Hat. I wear one almost all the time. Have a particular preference of a VERY special one that seems to be rather rare around here. Doesn't particularly stand out like a sore thumb. It isn't a tam or a beret though.

I have 3 different leather jackets that I almost never get around to wearing.

Prefer boots, have loggers, bikers, cowboy, and weather proof ones.

And a big selection of cheap running shoes from Costco.

Appearance wise, would it suffice once the time comes to let loose my size in Levi Strauss terms, with my sport coat size from my latest purchase at Nordstrom? Suppose I could throw in my boot size, too.

Anyway, may be a while before I can recklessly wander back in here for some more suspenseful fun!

Take care, please have a Merry Christmas Eve and/or whatever you enjoy observing, and I will look forward to being here again as soon as I can!

Internet Service Alternatives-Especially Upper County byClem December 24, 2008 (2 votes) (report abuse) (reply)
The last four years or so I have fiddled around with WI-Fi from two different ISP's. The service to be polite has been erratic although much faster than dial-up. If your service goes out on the weekend it wont get restored until monday morning. This happens fairly often. One month the service was so bad they didnt charge me. Charter Communications wired Cle Elum for broadband but then didnt offer it because of cost. Quest only started offering DSL service three years ago but made you pay for services that you really couldnt use. In fact until fairly recently they didnt have call waiting, voice mail, or caller id. Cle Elum finally has entered the 21st century and those are offered. Remember Cle Elum was the last town in Washington to have automated phone calls. Quest also didnt really offer anything special to sign up when they rolled out DSL three years ago. The only "special" was more reliable faster service.

Quest finally though decided to aggressively go after new customers. This month they have been promoting either $15 a month internet for one year and no committment or 6 months free and a two year commitment plus they throw in the modem for free. It was enough to make me sign up. The savings probably wont be that great but after plugging stuff in I notice the speed is at least double the wifi plus there is no "dead time" when nothing happens for a couple of minutes. Definitely feel like going over to the "Darkside" after 8 years of the "mom and pop" local ISP's.

WiFi I think is still a very viable alternative to wire but I think trying to get a decent signal from 2-3 miles away is a crap shoot. As WiFi was originally intended the antenaes would be closer spaced. Clearwire if it ever gets established in Upper County could be a real competitor to Quest. All of the ISP's I have had also tend to put too many subscribers on a server and during midday service becomes erratic and slow. I am now on my 5th ISP.
RE: Internet Service Alternatives-Especially Upper County byMC December 24, 2008 (2 votes) (report abuse)
Glad to hear you finally got what you needed.

Wifi is best for people in outlying areas, where chances of interference is much lower. Urban areas are notorious for 'noise' bouncing around... just take a laptop down any street in town and see how many open access points pop up, and that's not counting cordless phones, ham radios, and other sources of RF pollution.

From what I know: Cle Elum now has both cable internet and DSL available. Some areas out by Nelson Siding can get cable internet, and if that isn't available there are wireless options. Easton is limited to dial up, wireless, or satellite. Some areas in Lake Kachess and Elk Heights can get wireless. Nearly all Inland phone customers can get DSL. DSL is available to most of the old Elltel (now Fairpoint) customers, and Eburg has Charter (don't know how far it goes out).

I have heard of a couple people in upper county having good luck with Verizon air cards. I don't know what throughput they're getting though.

Way back in the day I know of at least one business in downtown Cle Elum that practically had to sacrifice chickens to Qwest in order to get a partial T1. Thank goodness things are somewhat improved since then, but there's clearly more room for improvement especially on the commercial side.
Merry Christmas To All byCleElum1 December 24, 2008 (3 votes) (report abuse) (reply)
TWAS THE NIGHT BERORE CHRISTMAS

Twas the night before Christmas, when all through the house
Not a creature was stirring, not even a mouse.
The stockings were hung by the chimney with care,
In hopes that St Nicholas soon would be there.

The children were nestled all snug in their beds,
While visions of sugar-plums danced in their heads.
And mamma in her ‘kerchief, and I in my cap,
Had just settled our brains for a long winter’s nap.

When out on the lawn there arose such a clatter,
I sprang from the bed to see what was the matter.
Away to the window I flew like a flash,
Tore open the shutters and threw up the sash.

The moon on the breast of the new-fallen snow
Gave the lustre of mid-day to objects below.
When, what to my wondering eyes should appear,
But a miniature sleigh, and eight tinny reindeer.

With a little old driver, so lively and quick,
I knew in a moment it must be St Nick.
More rapid than eagles his coursers they came,
And he whistled, and shouted, and called them by name!

"Now Dasher! now, Dancer! now, Prancer and Vixen!
On, Comet! On, Cupid! on, on Donner and Blitzen!
To the top of the porch! to the top of the wall!
Now dash away! Dash away! Dash away all!"

As dry leaves that before the wild hurricane fly,
When they meet with an obstacle, mount to the sky.
So up to the house-top the coursers they flew,
With the sleigh full of Toys, and St Nicholas too.

And then, in a twinkling, I heard on the roof
The prancing and pawing of each little hoof.
As I drew in my head, and was turning around,
Down the chimney St Nicholas came with a bound.

He was dressed all in fur, from his head to his foot,
And his clothes were all tarnished with ashes and soot.
A bundle of Toys he had flung on his back,
And he looked like a peddler, just opening his pack.

His eyes-how they twinkled! his dimples how merry!
His cheeks were like roses, his nose like a cherry!
His droll little mouth was drawn up like a bow,
And the beard of his chin was as white as the snow.

The stump of a pipe he held tight in his teeth,
And the smoke it encircled his head like a wreath.
He had a broad face and a little round belly,
That shook when he laughed, like a bowlful of jelly!

He was chubby and plump, a right jolly old elf,
And I laughed when I saw him, in spite of myself!
A wink of his eye and a twist of his head,
Soon gave me to know I had nothing to dread.

He spoke not a word, but went straight to his work,
And filled all the stockings, then turned with a jerk.
And laying his finger aside of his nose,
And giving a nod, up the chimney he rose!

He sprang to his sleigh, to his team gave a whistle,
And away they all flew like the down of a thistle.
But I heard him exclaim, ‘ere he drove out of sight,
"Happy Christmas to all, and to all a good-night!"

Cold, but not like it has been with a lot of blue sky right now. Can't bike, may just have to go for another nice walk.

Hints again? Well, I was in Washington State when JFK was killed. Suppose I could put down the years that I was in Europe but that might be too much of a clue.

Duty in the US Armed Forces? No one took a shot at including that fine detail.

Still getting a kick out of the chess playing thought. I will neither confirm or deny any allegations against my sterling character in regards to that particular game.

Have a Great Day everyone!

Perhaps one of these moments I'll fish around in my memory and see if I can reconstruct the parody I once made of that fine poem. Might be rather disrespectful to some. I do have the full collection of Bob Rivers Christmas parodies AND Weird Al Yankovic.

Ever heard "Christmas at Ground Zero"? "I AM SANTA CLAUS" put to Ozzie's "I am Iron Man"? "Walking Around in Women's Underwear" is really disrespectful and is to the tune of "Walking Around in a Winter Wonderland".

Word was, at the time it was released, that they had Eddie Vetter (lead singer, Pearl Jam) sneak in to do the sound to, "Oh Little House of Bethlehem" to the tune of "The House of the Rising Sun" and it really sounds good, to me anyway.

Anyway, have a wonderful day! I did manage to score two of the finest, most well marbled and heavy HUGE 7 day aged monster bone in rib steaks that Owens Meat could produce ALONG WITH a serious quantity of his fine pepperoni that has the cheddar cheese in it.

I'm set. No goose roasting here! May just fire one of them up for a late breakfast and have the other one later in memories of time past and a good partner who isn't around anymore!

God Bless!

A.

Merry Christmas! Off to rip open presents and eat (too much), but I'd strongly suggest XC skiing while the sun pokes out... conditions aren't bad where they've groomed or a snowmobile has gone over, although you can certainly blaze your own. I'd use wide skis for the latter however since it's been very dry and powdery- you'll want something with 'float'.
A Different Christmas Poem byAureliux December 25, 2008 (1 votes) (report abuse) (reply)
I just got this in via e-mail. Thought I might share it, as I feel as though I was asked to by the author. NO I did not write this or make it up and I do not know who did actually write it.

The embers glowed softly, and in their dim light,
I gazed round the room and I cherished the sight.
My wife was asleep, her head on my chest,
My daughter beside me, angelic in rest.
Outside the snow fell, a blanket of white,
Transforming the yard to a winter delight.

The sparkling lights in the tree I believe,
Completed the magic that was Christmas Eve.
My eyelids were heavy, my breathing was deep,
Secure and surrounded by love I would sleep.
In perfect contentment, or so it would seem,
So I slumbered, perhaps I started to dream.

The sound wasn't loud, and it wasn't too near,
But I opened my eyes when it tickled my ear.
Perhaps just a cough, I didn't quite know, Then the
Sure sound of footsteps outside in the snow.
My soul gave a tremble, I struggled to hear,
And I crept to the door just to see who was near.

Standing out in the cold and the dark of the night,
A lone figure stood, his face weary and tight.
A soldier, I puzzled, some twenty years old,
Perhaps a Marine, huddled here in the cold.
Alone in the dark, he looked up and smiled,
Standing watch over me, and my wife and my child.

"What are you doing?" I asked without fear,
"Come in this moment, it's freezing out here!
Put down your pack, brush the snow from your sleeve,
You should be at home on a cold Christmas Eve!"
For barely a moment I saw his eyes shift,
Away from the cold and the snow blown in drifts..

To the window that danced with a warm fire's light
Then he sighed and he said "Its really all right,
I'm out here by choice. I'm here every night."
"It's my duty to stand at the front of the line,
That separates you from the darkest of times.

No one had to ask or beg or implore me,
I'm proud to stand here like my fathers before me.
My Gramps died at 'Pearl on a day in December,"
Then he sighed, "That's a Christmas 'Gram always remembers."
My dad stood his watch in the jungles of 'Nam',
And now it is my turn and so, here I am.

I've not seen my own son in more than a while,
But my wife sends me pictures, he's sure got her smile.
Then he bent and he carefully pulled from his bag,
The red, white, and blue... An American flag.
I can live through the cold and the being alone,
Away from my family, my house and my home.

I can stand at my post through the rain and the sleet,
I can sleep in a foxhole with little to eat.
I can carry the weight of killing another,
Or lay down my life with my sister and brother..
Who stand at the front against any and all,
To ensure for all time that this flag will not fall."

"So go back inside," he said, "harbor no fright,
Your family is waiting and I'll be all right."
"But isn't there something I can do, at the least,
"Give you money," I asked, "or prepare you a feast?
It seems all too little for all that you've done,
For being away from your wife and your son."

Then his eye welled a tear that held no regret,
"Just tell us you love us, and never forget.
To fight for our rights back at home while we're gone,
To stand your own watch, no matter how long.
For when we come home, either standing or dead,
To know you remember we fought and we bled.
Is payment enough, and with that we will trust,
That we mattered to you as you mattered to us."

PLEASE, would you do me the kind favor of sending this to as many
People as you can? Christmas will be coming soon and some credit is due to our
U.S service men and women for our being able to celebrate these
Festivities. Let's try in this small way to pay a tiny bit of what we owe. Make people
Stop and think of our heroes, living and dead, who sacrificed themselves for us.

Yes because I bought my own present... byClem December 25, 2008 (2 votes) (report abuse) (reply)
About three weeks ago I found a deal on a really decent portable AM-FM weather radio that has a weather station. I bought it and when it came my wife wrapped it up. It was used and doesnt work perfect but its still pretty decent. I found out Cle Elum has a National Weather Service transmitter. The main purpose of the radio will be to pick up distant AM radio stations out in the sticks. I need to get some batteries for it and if it can pick up a couple of Seattle AM stations and the one from Wenatchee I will be pretty happy.

My wife got a Moonbeam Clock which is a retro reproduction of the Westclox Big Ben plug in clock that had a lit dial. It was very popular in the 40's and 50's. Everyone has gotten used to the glowing red numbers of the radio-alarm clocks of the past 35 years or so. Anyway I think it will be a welcome addition to the bedroom and it puts out a little light with a regular tiny light bulb.

I went slightly overboard with the kids with a Wii. I bought one accessory it didnt need and found out i needed another. The Wii comes with a sport game that includes golf and bowling that are fun.

What I'm finding on the internet is that this poem was called "A Soldiers Christmas" and was written in December 2000 by Michael Marks

I hope everyone had a great Christmas.

I have a daughter who lives in North Bend and she told me she has over 24 inches of snow in her yard. It snowed at her house all day today. She said the first couple of says were fun but now she is ready for it to go away. According to the weatherman it is warming up over there and should be really sloppy in a couple-3 days.
Broke A Snow Shovel Yesterday byClem December 26, 2008 (2 votes) (report abuse) (reply)
I would like to find a really heavy duty snow shovel. I had one once. The flimsy shovels they sell in front of the store might last for two months if you really go out and shovel. The plastic ones might last a little longer. The metal ones simply grind down to the point of being useless on a sidewalk.

Right now I am using a "grain" shovel made of plastic. Its pretty decent but I would still like a heavy duty metal shovel.
Four Wheel Drive Isnt All That Great byClem December 26, 2008 (1 votes) (report abuse) (reply)
I went over to North Bend Christmas Eve and going over the pass in near whiteout conditions saw all kinds of 4wd vehicles going 55-65 in the hard packed snow. I only saw one wreck though where a 4wd pickup slammed into the rear of a civic that might have spun out. Kind of weird though all the speed in miserable conditions. You really cant stop all that fast.

Coming back Christmas day the drivers were going much slower in better conditions. The only thing I can figure is the drivers on Christmas Day were older and had more common sense than the drivers on Christmas Eve. Still I saw two wrecks coming back including a Tundra flipped on its side.

I also got my 4wd drive stuck in some of the very slippery snow in North Bend. Just needed to shovel it out. Its a good idea to throw a shovel in the back. You just need to know where it is though. Right now my bed is completely full of snow.
RE: Four Wheel Drive Isnt All That Great byMC December 26, 2008 (1 votes) (report abuse)
I refuse to drive over 45mph locally on snow/ice, even with 4wd and even when someone is riding my bumper. It's just asking for trouble. Apparently nobody has given these folks a lesson in 'car crash physics 101', or at least the memo that 4wd doesn't stop any better than anything else once it gets going....

NOAA's forecast for Eburg was a gigantic FAIL last night. They said we were supposed to have a low of 10 while we were frantically running the heater in the pump house getting it thawed out as the thermometers read -2 and -4.

Fortunately weatherunderground.com has a nifty "Wundermap" feature, and I was able to get on there and start putting 2 and 2 together... warmer air was sucking over the mountains and passes but cold air was still stuck in the valleys. Very interesting to see Stampede pass reading 23, Cle Elum 17, and Eburg 0.

How is everyone??? I ran into some old customers of mine that was visiting from Washington State...the husband transfered to a nuclear power plant and they love living up there (I can't recall the town they named...I believe they mentioned something about the tri-city area, does that sound right to you???)

It made me jealous "but" happy for them...they really love Washington.I know I would love relocating there. Maybe soon!!!!

I'm so glad you got a "girlie" thing like scented candles. I like to use them while taking a bubble bath.

Don't get discouraged about shooting. Every gun is different, even ones that are the same make, model, and caliber. With time you'll get to know "your" gun and your shooting will get better and better with time. Promise.

Good Times, good times... byAureliux December 27, 2008 (2 votes) (report abuse)
Been a while since I cranked up the scented candles and bubble bath. Sounds good as a matter of fact. See, you ladies don't always have ALL the fun.

Ever try a good load of epsom salts and baby oil in the bath tub? Just be careful you don't fall down when you stand up, things do get slick. Have to make sure it all gets cleaned up good before someone else leaps in there for the morning rush shower or they're liable to be skating all over the tub, too!

Never fiddled with either the Llama .45 or the Taurus 9. Either would be fine. Back when they were VERY hard to get and horribly expensive I went all out for a one of five hundred CZ-75's in 9mm. I've never been so disappointed in all my life. Cost way too much and it has more muzzle whip in recoil than any .45 ACP that I ever shot. Unbelievable.

Also never fiddled with any .40s. Had some thoughts of the first 10mm particularly that manufacturing flop called the Bren 10. Before that I thought I always wanted an early model Colt in .38 Super but never got one of those. Were some interesting models of other things made in .30 Mauser that were around the same 'heat' as the .38 Super and they were pretty cheap once upon a time and I never got one of those, either.

So I never got a 10 or any of the others. Don't know if I ever will, now.

Used to hang out and shoot down at the Seattle Police Athletic Range and at Cascade Rifle out at Ravensdale where King Co swat used to practice. Have some funny stories I could tell about their mishaps.

My favorite candle scent is jasmine, by the way.

Your the first gent I've heard of that likes a good bubble bath without a lady in it with him, ha! Thats coool!!!

I've shot Ruger, Colt, and a few others I can't remember, in revolvers that shoot really nice, in 38 special and 44 calibers. The only semi's I've had an opportunity to try are 22's, and 45's. My hands don't fit the double stacks, so I'm a little limited to a single stack clip.

Measurements and Proportions byAureliux December 27, 2008 (2 votes) (report abuse)
I don't measure much of anything unless it might be either flammable or explosive. Or two stroke oil and gas. Now that is important!

But I suppose I like one good full cup of epsom salts in a big ol' bath. And while the water is running hot and steamy, I'll carefully pour in a couple tablespoons of baby oil.

Have used some other kinds of oil too. Can't remember what they are called now. Think I tried some regular unscented mineral oil once that I got at the pharmacy. Didn't quite do what it was supposed to at all and the moment just wasn't right for any occasion.

When there was a hot tub around there were some experiments with using epsom salts instead of chlorine or salt. Looking back, I'm just real glad everything didn't blow up at the wrong moment.

Anyway, this isn't getting the dishes done.

Jasmine the Miracle Scent... byAureliux December 27, 2008 (2 votes) (report abuse) (reply)
I love the stuff. I buy jasmine tea, jasmine rice, oh my I get it wherever I can. It should GROW around Louisiana. Ask around, if you know where a bush of it is, stand by it as the sun goes down. As soon as it's photosynthesis switches over from oxygen production, it will exhale the most incredible scent. But just for a second or two, then it's gone. Only thing that can possibly compare is when that happens to cherry blossoms, or maybe sweet peas. But it's right when the sun sets and it's TO DIE FOR. At my old house I had double rows of pie cherry trees down the driveway. Would sit out there in my chair and wait for the sun to go down in the early spring. Vapors out of those trees would almost knock me down and send me to heaven. Japanese seem to think there's something in cherry blossoms that have a particular kick to life in them. Whatever it is, I've felt it! And I've never run into anyone else on this continent that has tried it out.

The jasmine tea will help you live longer and healthier, too. Because it's a combo of dried jasmine blossoms and green tea leaves. Pretty much THE standard hot drink of China, except for perhaps oolong which I also adore for a tea, or bonay, which is mostly consumed around Hong Kong. I get one kilo bags of it, in bulk, imported strait from China... They are the size of pillow cases!

Kind of nice to have a tea pot all made up to keep the cup full while in the bath with either a good book or a DVD.

The single person luxury bath is rather rare for a man to experience, I suppose. And if I had my preference it would definitely be a two passenger experience. But like everything else in life, I have had to make do.

Chess. My goodness. Muscular legs? My, my my.

Seattle Police and King Co SWAT practicing stories? I'd get banned in Boston for those, need to think about it for a while. Some details I know FOR SURE can't be shared.

Guess they should have known to think about that one wise acre in their presence that hung out, listened to and saw everything, didn't drink, had a photographic memory AND who liked to write...

"I WAS THERE" the day the Seattle Boys got their brand spanking new AC556 machine guns. 13" barrel selective fire Ruger Mini 14's. Let me think of how to progress with that one. That would have been late '70's if my memory is now serving me correctly.

I need to do some dishes. I'll think about things and maybe write more later. We'll see.

Jasmine Rice / Jasmine Bush byAureliux December 27, 2008 (1 votes) (report abuse) (reply)
Really different, rice is a grain and it's the type of rice too, not that it's actually been combined with anything extracted from the jasmine bush that I know of anyway.

But it is the flowers off that bush that go in the fine light Chinese tea that SO many adore.

At the moment I just happen to be enjoying a cup of hot Siberian white ginseng tea! With two drops of St. John's Wort extract.

Never would have thought of coffee and Baileys with a hot bath. Guess I'm cut off of coffee after 9:00 AM most days. But then the stuff I make and drink would jump start a dead bull elephant, too. If I had to think of a special drink like that for me, perhaps a hot cocoa, a very very short shot of my coffee just to give it a mild mocha flavor, then in goes the Malibu Rum. Haven't had one of those in years. Once in a while would do the same but with amaretto. Oh and the hot eggnog with two shots of decent brandy and a dusting of fresh nutmeg on top.

Still wondering whatever set my wonderful forum friends off on this chess playing idea. I'm going to have to write a little story just on that one item. It may not quite be what you are thinking of, so don't hold your breath, OK? But the comment about me playing that game and something else that I was thinking of doing all kind of happened at the exact same moment and it really kind of surprised me, to say the least...

Will see if I can make a good story out of it for all of you!
