Nothing Like A Dip In The Pond!
Whats the weather at your place?

What have you heard about what the weather's going to be?

Got any helpful info. or tips?

Tip:
I'll start with an obvious one:
Don't leave your pets out in the cold if it's a breed not meant to be left out for extended stays. Bring Fifi in and let Beethoven out.

Tip:
Dogs are just as likely to suffer from dehydration in the winter as in the summer, so ensure they drink plenty of water even in the winter.

Balmy Weather byAngel Girl December 17, 2008 (1 votes) (report abuse) (reply)
Good Morning Everyone...here in Baton Rouge,it is 65 degrees at 7:03 A.M. we are expecting a high of 80 today!!!

Temperature's like this is making it hard for me to get into the Christmas Spirit....maybe next week we will get a COLD front move in???

How much snow have you recieved?
Its Snowing byClem December 17, 2008 (1 votes) (report abuse) (reply)
The weather service is calling for 4-13 inches of snow today. They really struck out with all the snow predictions they made for last weekend. We only ended up with about 5 inches and there wasnt a whole lot more at the Pass. This time 13 inches might be possible since we already have about 4 inches.

It seems like way too many people try to make their dogs outdoor dogs. Its not as bad as it was a few years ago in town with the roving pack at the east end of town. I still have two neighbors who only provide a dog house and keep the dogs constantly confined to a fairly small area. The dogs never go anywhere and seem to function only as watch dogs. I had one neighbor who kept his dog on a chain continuously for 4 years until he moved. I never saw him take the dog for a walk or take the dog inside. It was a mixed husky breed though so it probably tolerated the cold.
RE: Its Snowing byMC December 17, 2008 (1 votes) (report abuse)
I don't know why people bother having dogs they don't even seem to like. Chaining them up without attention is miserable, but I suppose it's a weak improvement over running loose. I see cars, trucks, even semis dodging dogs frequently in upper county- although fortunately not as often as it used to be.

I've actually heard from several locals who came up one dog short over the years: "we kept telling Fido not to go out in the road, but he was stupid and didn't listen."

*head bangs wall*

Sadly, there is an endless supply of 'free' dogs available for such people to cycle through.
What Kind of Snow Shoveler Are You? byClem December 17, 2008 (1 votes) (report abuse) (reply)
In Cle Elum in theory you are required to shovel your sidewalks according to a 1954 ordinance. I have never seen it enforced. They only like to enforce the parking ordinace on First Street during the winter. Which is kind of funny because you can get a ticket for leaving a decent car parked for 24 hours even when snow isnt a problem but the city will let you leave a piece of junk parked on the street for 8 months the rest of the year.

Back to shoveling-my neighbor likes to get up at 7am and shovel whatever is on the ground and then call it a day. It doesnt matter if its still snowing or not. You shovel at 7am promptly or else! Now his heart is weak or so his doctor tells him and so his wife is out there shoveling. What kind of guy would do that?lol. I usually wait until it quits or at least is light outside.
So Far Snow Is Only in the Mountains byClem December 17, 2008 (1 votes) (report abuse) (reply)
I took a look at the weather cams and it looks like Ellensburg might only have some light snow. Chains are required on trucks going over the pass. Its 10 degrees and wind in CE with chll factor -4. Its perfect for MC and the sled dogs. The Seattle area looks like its still clear of snow.
RE: So Far Snow Is Only in the Mountains byMC December 17, 2008 (0 votes) (report abuse)
It's been so cold I've just stayed at home for a few days. I might try to get the dogs out tonight since it's 'warmer', but don't know what I'll do over this weekend... it's a balance of having fun vs getting a little nervous about how slow that starter turns over while I'm out at a remote trailhead...
Dogs and cold byMC December 17, 2008 (1 votes) (report abuse) (reply)
A tight dog house stuffed with straw is a minimum in this climate IMO. Mine always sleep in crates in the utility room year-round, but I try to get them inside sooner and put them out later once it hits single digits.

Hydration is indeed a challenge in this kind of weather since buckets will turn to blocks within hours, and heated buckets always pose the danger of dogs chewing into the cables. Mushers typically give warm water 'baited' (i.e. flavored) with meat, kibble, fat, cat food, fish, etc. at least twice a day. My dogs start out with 1 cup of food in a quart of warm water 365 mornings a year, and get more when I get home as needed.
RE: Dogs and cold byAureliux December 18, 2008 (1 votes) (report abuse)
Triggered an old thought of mine in regards to hydrating the dry dog food first.
I used to cook it for the dogs on the wood stove. Found that a lot of the nutrients listed came from dried cracked grains that dogs can't digest unless it's cooked/hydrated somehow.
Once I started that, I found that I didn't have to feed them quite as much because they were getting more value from the dry food.
I'd usually stir in an egg about once every three days and let it cook in. Depending on how much I had going on, each dog would get about a teaspoon of some cold pressed oil, a tablespoon of cottage cheese, a teaspoon of powdered milk powder, and whatever else I had around that might work for dog food supplements.
Once in a while I'd be down on Puget Sound, could get on the sand bars and catch hundreds of flounder when there wasn't a limit on them. Could fillet those out with no bones, in quarters, IQF them and put a quarter in the dog food cook pot. They really went nutzoid after that treat! Cats didn't bother with needing it cooked and if they found it before it was thawed out, it was gone.
I always seemed to have the most well fed, shiny, healthiest dogs around in those days. They minded pretty good and didn't cause trouble because I trained them myself. Then there were the cats, who stuck around because no one else in the neighborhood would feed them like I did. Did have some neat kitties around though and I liked them as well as I did the dogs.

Dogs can find new homes byClem December 17, 2008 (1 votes) (report abuse) (reply)
One of my neighbors dogs found a new home in Spokane where it stays inside the house most of the time and sleeps on its own bed in the bedroom with its masters. Funny how dogs can occaisionally improve their existence. The dog sent me an e-mail telling me how happy it was...lol.
RE: Dogs can find new homes byMC December 17, 2008 (1 votes) (report abuse)
Haha... I think I've seen those myself. "Hi, this is Sparky saying 'I love my new digs, complete with 600 thread count sheets and room service! Come visit me on MySpace!'"

I think the world would be a much better place if we got more of those in place of the usual 10,000 'mortgage your Nigerian viagra' emails.

My oldest dog has had a child's sleeping bag on the floor at the foot of the bed for years, but she's starting to get creaky at 10 years old and I noticed she would often be curled up on the couch instead in the morning. I ended up getting her the most cloud-fluffy dog bed imaginable from the Old Mill store in Eburg a couple weekends ago. Now at night she'll sit in front of me and stare pointedly until I set her sleeping bag up on her Princess Bed, and hold it open so she can climb inside, and flap the cover over properly to hide her eyes from the light...

I was just looking at her stretched out snoozing in luxury the other night and sincerely wished we could trade places for a few days.

I'm glad to hear you love sub-zero w/ a light breeze and 12" (I went out with tape and measured it just for you, ha)snow because if I could I would give it all to you. Then, I would bask in the heat, play in the water, and eat tamales/drink tequila from Fat Mamma's.

How was your day? Is everyone well yet?
RE: Hey My Snow Angel Friend byAngel Girl December 17, 2008 (1 votes) (report abuse)
I have never tried tequilla "BUT" I know for sure the tamales and gringo pie are to die for!!!!!

My friends tell me The Knock You Naked Margariita's are delish???? I know they sale a lot of them!!!! It is a very popular hangout for locals and visitors.

My day was good....it began with an order for 12 large pizza's for Turner Industries...Heck, I didn't have to deliver them making it even better!!!!!

We did well for lunch!!! We served Meatloaf with a brown gravy...mashed potatoes...green beans... salad and pizza. We had a lot of hungry Cajuns "Thank God".

Tomorrow I have someone wanting $50.00 worth of Shrimp Salad I have never sold that much salad at one time..I'm sure I can do it!!!

On the lunch buffet tomorrow we will be serving Chicken with mushroom gravy...jasmine rice...peas and carrots...salad and pizza

Sure wish you could come!!!!

Is it still snowing???
RE: Hey My Southern Belle Friend byCleElum1 December 17, 2008 (1 votes) (report abuse)
Oh yah, it's snowing all right, no problem there. It's coming down good, with a polar front no less. They're saying on the news as I type that it's going to keep on snowing until tomorrow afternoon with another foot possible. Then there another front coming Sat. night into Sun. and Mon., huh !?!

Must say that name is rather catchy, I have never heard of it. That Ellensburg Blue margarita is big enough to make me sit down and behave for an hour or so, where do you find that Knock You Naked one? Any idea what they put in it?
I might just have to try one of those some day.

RE: CleElum 1 Friend byCleElum1 December 17, 2008 (1 votes) (report abuse)
Two neighbors have had their pipe freeze up and break in the last 48 hrs. so far. Knock wood, we're o.k.. but I haven't heard an end to this cold.

Navigating in the snow is so dependent on who plowed, whn, amd how well. As well as did they sand? Then there's the fun of a full-size pick-up trying to drive in the tracks of narrow-wheeled small vehicles. I just try and keep it out of the ditch,ha!
RE: CleElum 1 Friend byAngel Girl December 17, 2008 (1 votes) (report abuse)

Maybe I shouldn't have been so generous with Clem's Christmas Present...LOTS OF SNOW!!!

I'm thinking.... when my prayers are anwered "again" and I relocate up your way, we will need to purchase another 4 wheel drive...and I will need to take a course on how to drive in the snow.
RE: CleElum 1 Friend byCleElum1 December 17, 2008 (1 votes) (report abuse)
We're all electric. In the evenings I have turned the thermostat up to 78 to get the actual temperature inthe house up to 67. The furnace has a heck of a time keeping up when it's this cold out. I don't even wasnt to think what's going to happen to the electric bill????
RE: CleElum 1 Friend byCleElum1 December 17, 2008 (1 votes) (report abuse)
Oh I got 4x all right. I couldn't get out of my own tracks at timeds if I didn't. There have been times in 4 wheel drive it was all I could do to back out of my parking spot.

You relocate to E'burg you wouldn't have to have a 4x. Especially if your in town.
Yeah, it's been cold byMC December 17, 2008 (2 votes) (report abuse) (reply)
It's not unusual to get a foot or more of snow in one big dump around here, but it is unusual to get daily highs in the teens or below during these events, and it's unusual that the cold weather is sticking around so long.

I am SOUL GRATEFUL to the people we bought our place from... they had already wrapped all our pipes in heat tape and rigged with the plugs that kick in when it's below freezing. The only thing we have to do is keep a space heater on in the pump house when it starts dipping below 0.

Don't know who NW Res is, I'm assuming they are a prof at CWU and it's winter break.
Students and faculty both disappear this time of year for the holidays. Apartment building's parking lots are empty of cars right now and things won't get back in swing again for quite a while.
CWU does this odd trimester schedule (fall, winter, spring) with a real short summer quarter and there's long breaks in between.
Works great for some things, not so good for others. But I'd be pretty certain that it's vac time for a lot of the faculty that work there.

I havent seen any snow equiptment go by for 3-4 hours and the Cle Elum shop is closed. The Safeway Parking lot was kind of interesting because I couldnt quite figure where the back exit-entrance was. The Hakkapelita studded tires are doing very nicely.

Definitely a very cold snow. The average day time temp for this time of year is 33 degrees. It never got above 13 degrees today and now its back to 11 degrees. The ten day forecast shows Dec 24-25 as the two warmest days with daytime highs of 28.

Surviving the Weather byAureliux December 17, 2008 (3 votes) (report abuse) (reply)
One of the best things I ever got for being out in the cold? REI and a couple other places that dealt with military surplus had this super thick extra stitched green wool pants that came from the West German army in the early '70's. Think I had 5 pair once upon a time.

There was a mail order outdoor catalog company a long time ago called Frostline, I think, and they had all kinds of things that you made yourself and they sold the patterns and materials. I remember my Mom getting their doggie coat kits. Dogs always had winter coats when they went out for very long.

Made some back packs for the dogs, too for hiking trips. They always carried their own water, food, and doggie dishes. Worked out great.

I've got a special backpack loaded with some essentials that I think I may need if things go wrong while I'm on the road. Goes with me everywhere. Have been caught on I-90 twice with a several hour wait and I'm very glad I had the extra along. Amazing what a difference two bottles of water, a sack of good granola, a food bar and a sack of jerky can make when you are having to wait somewhere.

Flash light, extra batteries, poncho and liner, tarp, rope, shovel, matches, candle, survival stove, water purification system, 1st aid kit,... I can't remember everything now but I'm too old, gnarly and cranky to go without for long.

And don't EVER forget that extra roll of TP. Somewhere along the way I actually learned how to make a survival stove out of it. Can make one out of newspaper, too, that is kind of trick.

Always have a couple extra bottles of good water along. EVERY time I've ever got parked having to wait it seems like there's a car with kids in it that have nothing so I share.

RE: Surviving the Weather byMC December 18, 2008 (1 votes) (report abuse)
I've got random bits of useful stuff including some food, although I mostly just make sure the gas tank is full and I've got enough clothing for hours in the weather outside.

However, I've been thinking about throwing in my home made alcohol stove/coffee can wind shield-stand/scrap of linoleum to insulate from snow while heating/percolator coffee pot to melt snow in. There are all kinds of web sites with ways to build these stoves out of pop cans, cat food cans, etc, sometimes with a bit if fiberglass insulation for a wick. They are extremely reliable since they require no pressurized bits, they can be fueled with those cheap yellow bottles of Heet fuel additive- which are sealed when new so no worries packing them rolling around in the car, and alcohol stoves perform well enough in extremely cold weather that they're the weapon of choice on Iditarod/Quest type sled dog races.

The only thing to watch with alcohol stoves is that the flame is hard to see in daylight. Don't burn yourself! They also don't have any adjustments or ways to add more fuel while they're going... they just burn full blast until they run out.
RE: Surviving the Weather byAureliux December 18, 2008 (1 votes) (report abuse)
What a great idea! I have bottles of that Heet stuff and NEVER thought about using it for stove fuel. And here I am, supposed to know everything. Guess I still have that old mind set that only boats have alcohol stoves.
I have one of those real handy MSR survival stoves that will burn almost anything, from white gas, all kinds of gasoline, kerosene, solvent, and diesel. MSR used to have an outlet store in Seattle where you could buy reconditioned and returned ones for a significant discount. Have their water filter system too.
Those hundred hour survival candles are good to have but they are a kind of last resort thing that takes up space and weighs a lot in proportion to what you get out of them.
Went to Cash 'n Carry once and got a couple cases of that liquid canned fuel that is used under commercial chafing dishes. Couple of those are nice to have around. Used to always have the US surplus hexamine heating tablets which can do the job to a can of "C" rations. Then they found out how toxic the fumes from those things are... So that is all gone now.
Something else I have found to be REAL handy is a big bottle of that alcohol hand sanitizer. I can't stand having dirty hands when I handle food.
And now that I'm thinking of it, the other thing that is a very real necessity is some bleach. Plain Jane unscented regular store bought stuff is one of the greatest disinfectants going. Think just about all law enforcement and emergency medical techs are carrying it along these days along with a good supply of latex gloves and splash proof face shields.
I'm sure I'll think of something else soon, and need to post it! Thanks for pulling my string again,

Good Morning my friend:

Sorry I didn't reply last night...I fell asleep in my recliner...this morning (4:56 AM) I tuned into the weather channel the temperature was 67 degrees.... I do hope it turns cooler,I need to get into the Christmas spirit.

I hope to be off this evening so as to make a coconut cake, some candy "and" go to dinner...I plan on going to "The Texas Roadhouse" ever heard of it?

I may rethink the Roadhouse because of the location...close to the Mall of Louisiana...the traffic is a nighmare!!!(Of course this is one of my biggest complaints...the Baton Rouge traffic!!!! It has never returned to normal since Katrina hit.)

Is it still snowing?
RE: Angel Girl byCleElum1 December 19, 2008 (0 votes) (report abuse)
I've heard of it but didn't know there was such a variety of locations until I googled it. Hope you go and have fun, lots of fun!

Don't worry about the lack of a "come back" when you fell a sleep. I can't always "get on and get out".

It was -2 in CE this morning on the Sunset(restaurant here in town) reader board at 9 a.m. and -5 here at the house. By what I heard from other customers at the counter of the Cottage that was nothing. Some people had -7 or -11 at their homes. It's sunny and cold with another artic front coming in tonight the last I heard.

By 11 a.m. it finally made it up to 0 here at my place.
I messed up and had the pick-up heater on the floor this morning on the way to town. About half way there, after the heater started putting out warmth I change the setting to on the defrost setting for the windshield. A small rock chip crack on the left immediately cracked-out all the way cross the windshield to within 8" to 10" of the far right side. Made a most interesting sound, like a heavy ice covered lake cracking, huh??? Guess I'll have to figure out a way to afford a new windshield in the spring.

We tried Texas Roadhouse and was disappointed... our onion blossom was ok the dipping sauce was awful!!!

My caesar salad was very good...fresh, crisp, just the right amount of dressing and croutons.

I picked Road Kill for my entree, it was OK...all in all...I was disappointed... I'm sure they were busy and did not have time to put some TLC into the dishes they were serving, everyone has an off day...I may try them again? We shall see.

So tell me...how's the weather???(We are having record heat down here.)

Hey Angel Girl,
Sorry to hear you didn't enjot yourself as much as I had hoped. I see when they offer a coupon sor a free onion blossom if you buy two dinners. Did you get that? Might help if you didn't have to pay for it !?!

It's snowing again and we're suppose to have one big bad storm coming in thru Mon. morning with every kind of warning you could imagine, including blizzard in some places.

Wish it would cool down for you. I'd send all this white stuff your wasy if I could.

Hi,
A lot of good forum work going on in many different areas on here and I'm having problems keeping track now that the strings are getting so long.
So I think I'm missing comments that have been made. Used to have this handy dandy program that downloaded all the forum topics and kept things straight.
Never figured out what the RSS feed thing is for. Suppose I need to look at that one of these days?
Thank you very much for all the good thoughts and comments expressed. I need to go pretend that a concept known as beauty sleep may still work. I'm beat.

-2.2 was the final reading After the sun came up byClem December 19, 2008 (1 votes) (report abuse) (reply)
CleElum1 you really want to shop around for the windshield. The local guys quoted me $300 a Yakima shop wanted $175. I was going to Tucson and I knew the local tucson amigos could do it cheaper. I paid $125 installed with tax. For the fun of it I broke out the rear heated glass which of course would be $500 or so around here. The guys in Tucson fixed it for $125 again including tax. The Seattle area probably has a couple of options. Before Harman Glass got bought out they were relatively cheap.

I'll probaly wait for a tax refund check, then, either do it in E'burg or Yakima. I don't do western Wa. at all and rather doubt I'll be getting down around Tucson any time soon, ha! It's not the most retarded thing I've ever done but close enough. I'm feelin' alittle silly right now, because I should have known better. Oh well, nothing I can do about it now, huh!?!
Power Lines byAngel Girl December 19, 2008 (1 votes) (report abuse) (reply)
Hi y'all

Question for you....are your power lines buried under ground or on poles???

I'm thinking with the amount of snow you get, they would be buried???

I have asked our local officials to consider doing that here...maybe we wouldn't loose our power as often when we have a hurricane???

Thank you
Angel Girl byCleElum1 December 20, 2008 (1 votes) (report abuse)
Mornin',
Hope you had a great time last night. Did you go to The Texas RoadHouse?

You were asking about underground and above ground power lines. There's also another twist to the above ground. For instance, we're out of town so our power is above ground. We get our power from the P.U.D., who gets the power from P.S.E.. The bad part is we lose power if either one or both of them have any kind of problem.

Then, there the funny side of power transmission, in this case by a extension cord. I go out and tuck my pick-up in by plugging it in. Some daytime temps. are low enough I just leave it plugged in around the clock, ha!
Not that much underground utilities here byClem December 19, 2008 (1 votes) (report abuse) (reply)
Downtown Ellensburg has some undergrounding and my guess is all the new neighborhoods do. In widespread power outages in Western Washington even with all the undergrounding everyone gets knocked out. Obviously smaller outages are prevented by undergrounding. One of the problems with undergrounding in Western Washington is during heavy rains the vaults can get flooded. Flood prone areas typically have overhead utilities. The biggest reason for undergrounding is getting rid of the visual clutter of lines everywhere.

Wind is the biggest problem taking down lines. However in Kittitas county we have so much wind 8 months of the year all the trees are pretty well tested. On the west side there is so little wind and the snow is so infrequent the two or three big storms they have usually cause a lot of problems. During heavy rains water seeps into the utility vaults knocking power out. The best solution for keeping power on is to live near a downtown business core. Power companies alway restore the power to downtown areas first.

TEXAS ROADHOUSE bySith December 20, 2008 (1 votes) (report abuse) (reply)
Texas Roadhouse is an awesome place! It's a sin not to love it! :) ha ha

The rolls are amazing and the Steak and Chicken Critters are top notch! Got to love the peanuts......
RE: TEXAS ROADHOUSE byAngel Girl December 20, 2008 (0 votes) (report abuse)
We enjoyed the peanuts also...a child slid on some of the hulls thrown on the floor... I loved the rustic look.

If it's a sin to not love it...I'm guilty of it!!!( But I am willing ti give it another try)

Next time I go, I plan to try a steak and of course the caesar salad...the salad alone was worth the trip.
RE: TEXAS ROADHOUSE byAngel Girl December 20, 2008 (1 votes) (report abuse)
Hi CleElum1

The manager stopped by as we were dining and asked if we had ever been to the T.R. before....we said no, so he brought us a complimentary bag of peanuts and a coupon for a free onion blossom our next visit, which was very kind of him.

We may go again "BUT" it will be after Christmas before we do...the location of Texas Roadhouse is to close to the mall and the shoppers
are crazy!!!! Road rage is running rampant!!!!

Snow has started in Cle Elum byClem December 20, 2008 (2 votes) (report abuse) (reply)
The low this morning was 3.2 degrees and the high was 8.8 degrees. It started snowing at 3pm.

My neighbors "dog house" burned down this morning. By "dog house" I mean a structure separate from the house thats insulated, has a heater, tools, TV, stereo, refrigerator, hot plate, etc. He said his oil heater caught on fire.

The fire started at about 850pm. I dont think the FD had any water on it for at least 25 minutes. That is one of the problems with a volunteer FD. They did keep it spreading to the house next door. A good number of volutnteers did respond and were out there in the 0 degree temps.

Starting to really come down hard like it's not going to quit. Noticed the basketball game is still on at EHS with Selah. Not a nice night to be out.

Glad the FD got that fire out before it got around. VERY glad no one got hurt. Fighting structural fires in this kind of weather is extremely dangerous.

No Cooking Here... byAureliux December 20, 2008 (1 votes) (report abuse) (reply)
Made a big pot of my burrito filling the other day and I'm still using that up. Made huevos rancheros without the chorizo this AM and that turned out really good. Then I did enchiladas for lunch, fried the corn tortillas in dark olive oil and garlic AND OH those turned out good. Probably going to have to get more salsa verde soon.
Have a dozen split fryer breasts that I'm going to bone out tomorrow. Will get a pot of soup going with the bones and am not sure what I'll do with the rest of it. Probably some will be satay, maybe bread some for fingers, could make some white meat nuggets. Have to see what I feel like once I get things going.
Seems to be taking a little extra longer to thaw them out. Can't imagine why? :-)
Have been out of home made chicken stock for way too long. Want to make some ga bo chin and use plenty of chili peppers to warm me up inside.
Had thought about doing up some soy beans to make some cream stock and then I could make some tom ka, too.
I'll let you know what I cook up. Whatever it is, I'll make enough so I don't have to cook any more for a while!
Ever mess around with real saffron to make that bright yellow Thai rice? It's kind of fun to fiddle around with now and again and I like it better than trying tumeric for color.
ALL good cold weather food!

Gautama had some interesting experiences along his way through life. Kwan Yin was very beautiful.

Ho Tai was always my favorite, once upon a time. Can't beat that good upbeat attitude that he had!

I respect your religious preference...It's just that, how can you worship something your not sure is male...female...and etc.

Again,I am not judging you.

Buddha, like GOD has no gender. They are just in image, spirit, and form. They are any race, religion, spirituality, sexual orienation, ethnicity, disability, culinary style, etc. They could even be transgendered or transsexual. It does not matter. I am not bias and don't follow any one religion or spirituality. I follow and learn from them ALL! :)
RE: WORSIP byAureliux December 21, 2008 (1 votes) (report abuse)
Oh, worship! Ok, now it kind of sounds like following Prince Abdul Baraba Baha? Know there's different ways of spelling that one. Baha'i faith is certainly interesting, really tried to take hold here for a while. Suppose now most of his little disciples know him as Baha'u'llah.
All the followers I ran into along the way were a pretty decent bunch and weren't into violence, hate mongering, and/or putting other people down.
Just doesn't contain the solid character of truth and results that I have found in The Lord Jesus Christ.

Ah, weather center of the forums! Finally stopped snowing in E-burg, have several inches of new on the ground, and it's quite cold out.

Got a news flash sometime after 10:00 PM last night that I-90 is closed again.

Looks like no bike ride again this AM!

Just took a peek through the DOT cams and their website, appears I-90 is closed and they don't know when it's going to open.

Will probably now be a catastrophic microwavable bean burrito shortage at all the truck stops in town now... Price of burgers may go up but diesel should continue towards a steady decline with all the trucks parked all over the place.

At least there will be irrigation water this summer.

Have a great Sunday out there, forum land! I'm going to go find something useful to do today.

19 Inches on the ground Cle Elum byClem December 21, 2008 (1 votes) (report abuse) (reply)
Thats the same as we had three days ago. The original snow settled and evaporated so 7 inches or so of new snow brings us back to 19".

My neighbors shop looks like a total loss. Fortunately the fire never broke though the sides or roof in a big way because its built right up to his neighbors house. I couldnt believe it when I first saw the flames. I thought he really likes to heat up his shop. I ran acrosss the street and opened his door and yelled that his shop was on fire. Why wait for someone to get up and answer the door? He was already one the phone to the FD.

Everything I have seen around here with the volunteer fire departments is that they contain fires so they dont spread but they dont extinguish them that often. My fire insurance is $620 for the coming year. My guess is that is $100-$200 per year higher than if there was a full time FD and the town had a lower fire rating. Kittitas will be looking at the possibility of contracting fire services. It was easy to consoldiate police services but it would be very difficult to consolidate fire services as the volunteers will interfere with any process that makes sense.

Think I remember that group from the late 60's. Kind of a decent outfit, stood for Bible Integrated And Saved.
Actually, you MUST allow one religion to control you if you seek out the root, original and true meaning of the word? Just means way of life. So if you must really be true to your own spirituality and decency while continuing to be kind and thoughtful to others, it sounds like you really, truly are completely and totally controlled by one religion?
But I could go on forever. Welcome to the United States of America where we have our wonderful Bill of Rights and Constitution!
So have a ball with your freedom of religion! Very glad to hear that you are dedicated to respect and peace.
Social justice and rights are good things to stand up for, too!
Got any more questions about Gautama, Kwan Yin, Ho Tai, Shiva, Vishnu, Brahma, Baha'u'llah, Mohammed, YWHW, The LORD Jesus Christ, Abraham, Moses... Let me know. Perhaps I may have an answer for you that you might not expect.

RE: CleElum1 byCleElum1 December 21, 2008 (1 votes) (report abuse)
Hey Angel Girl,
A. is right, about another 6" last night with more coming. Need to get out on the end of the "hispanic dragline", but my hearts not in it! It gets hard shoveling when I start to have to lift the shovel and pile in up around the 3' level. Anything after that is too much lifting and piling.

Been fighting with the by-pass hose that comes off the oil filler spout of my P.U.. It froze up last night and blew oil everywhere from the valve cover on the drivers side. Finally got the by-pass hose thawed out, don't know how long it'll stay that way. Hope the valve cover gasket isn't going to be a leaking problem now. Can't afford a mechanic to put a new gasket on.

How the heat?
